Intro to fitting 35s (< 3" Lifts for those that wheel and love alignments)

Thank you. I kind of like the Right angle look vs some of the others that I am finding as options (R4T, NIK, Alpine Designs)

 

You can buy their mount and have someone local install, I believe they are $175.
Also keep in mind their mount as well as the Alpine Designs use the stock bolt location - the Red Goat Fab does not

 

It does use the stock bolt location. Kinda. It uses a plate to tie in the old location to the new hole you have to make.

 

Interesting.... so fellas- hindsight being 20/20: If you were doing this over, would you go with the Red Goat Fab again, or one of the others like Alpine or NIK that line up with the OEM bolt location?

 

Ok so I went with RGF at the time Alpine was just getting out there. I am also going bigger than 35s and will be doing an aggressive tub to the firewall and fender to get all the flex. All that said as more reasoning I chose RGF. Now onto which I would choose. It depends, on what I was wanting to accomplish and if I thought for a second 37s or bigger were going to be in my future.

Here are what I see as pros and cons to Alpine and RGF as I only have experience with those 2 I cannot speak to the others. Both are really nice set ups. RGF I feel is a little more robust. The Alpine is at a pretty sharp angle and cantilevered out futher than RGF, (I would gusset the alpine some more). RGF you get a little more weld surface to really burn it into the frame (that point is probably anecdotal). RGF you have to drill a new hole and access hole for the new location of the bushing (I would suggest putting a thick large fender washer inside like the plate on the underside). Alpine runs a different bushing for the body mount and it's smaller in DIA (not sure it really matters), I like the OE size and more options when it comes time to replace. If you hustle, and don't spend hrs grinding the frame smooth from the old mount, both can be done in like 3-4 hrs especially if you have sliders they help so much.

All in all both take time to do both are solid kits. They both have their set backs. The biggest thing is what will your end goal be. Also I have done some extremely aggressive CMC on guys trucks to fit 35s without either kit and get good tire stuffing without rubbing. But this also required re-clocking of the stock bushing for the 2 smaller bolts that hold it in place. Many ways to skin a cat just what will work best for you.

 

35s are on. They look insane, so much clearance underneath.

Hit the JBA UCA on large turns. Ordered 0.5” Bora spacer.




Still hitting cab mount. Need to cut more there.

 

Pretty much exactly what @ovrlndkull said, I went with this kit because it seems to be more robust and gives alot of clearance. Also re-using the factory bushing is always nice incase you need replacement parts and OEM qaulity bushings are always amazing. I didn't need this to run 35s, I did need it for 37s.

It really depends on what your plans are for the truck. If your LT and super wide it's alot harder to fit bigger tires and you won't rub cab mount as much as rubbing firewall. It also depends on your style of wheeling. 35s barely rubbed while rock crawling but higher speed stuff or jumping the truck you really need to tub and do a body mount relocate.

I cut all the way back to the bolt on the top. The bit to the outside of the CM I hack off as well. That means the furthest out point from the body is the mount no more nub sticking past the mount. The closest matched thickness metal to the CM is 11ga. I get real aggressive with them on 35s to get as much clearance as possible. Truck looks awesome so clean!!!

I don't plan to go larger than 35's at this point in time, heck jumping to what ever I end up with (315 or 305) on the -38 17x9's that are waiting in the garage will be huge for some time to come... I am mostly just DD but do some light wheeling... and lots of beach driving.... So I'll keep thinking about this and make call sooner or later....

First up for me now are new CVJ Axels while I do the ECGS Bushing mod. in that front diff next weekend.
