My Fuelly numbers do not include fill-ups impacted by towing my boat, but I can milk it to 22+ MPG in mixed driving in the summer. 23 MPG tanks not unusual. I have an DCLB-OR. Drive it like a Prius. Take it out of gear when coming to stop lights; easy on the accelerator; typical hyper-miling stuff.

2020 TRD OR DCSB AT. I have a set of 265/75R16 Duratrac E Load tires that weigh 52lbs each. I have a tonneau cover, and carry approx 50lbs of gear in the bed. I avg between 16.5-17mpg mixed driving, and about 18.5-19mpg Hwy, running at about 70mph. If I go over 75mpg, my fuel mileage drops off the cliff, which sucks on the toll roads which have an 85mph posted speed limit and everyone drives 90-95mph on.

Seems like taking it out of gear in the automatic on the way to the light would waste fuel.

Coasting in gear is most fuel efficient and out of gear is only doable on a manual. If you’re coasting in Neutral in an Automatic you’re damaging your vehicle.

First, you have larger/heavier tires so that is going to work against you.
Second, the tire pressure you're running will make a BIG difference.
Third, your "normal" driving may need to be adjusted. For higher MPGs, these trucks do not like to go over 70 mph or stop/go traffic.
Forth, using the adaptive cruise will use more fuel.
Fifth, your geographic location will make a big difference. Headwinds and large elevation changes cause degraded fuel efficiency.

On my truck, I get the best MPGs by using S mode, standard cruise control, staying under 70mph and keeping the correct pressure in the tires. I'm lifted and on E rated 255s and I average 19 mpg with about 75% hwy miles. On back roads at 55-60 mph I will get 20+ mpg.

What are you running for air pressure on road?

35 cold which increases to about 38-39 after a few miles when warmed up.

Are these hand calculations or are you going by what your truck is telling you?

OP, your truck is not even near being broken in. You will see better mileage between 6 and 10K miles. There should be a sticky for this!

I drive 10 miles to work each way. I get 20-23mpg to work and 18-20 leaving work. Speeds vary between 30-60mph, but I probably average 45-50mph. My tank average has been 17-18mpg for the first couple thousand miles but lately I've been getting 18.5-20mpg for the tank average. I tend to floor it and run through as many gears as I can 5 or 6 times a week and still get pretty good MPG. That's in a 2020 TRD OR MT on stock tires/wheels. Hopefully OVtuned this weekend! I'm at 4,000 miles. 30PSI in the tires.

Mine was close to yours, then it went from leaving me disappointed up to I'm pretty dang impressed. One day on a drive to work I hit every light green and got 25 mpg lol.

I think most Toyotas and modern vehicles come with synthetic oil from the factory.

I did not buy my Tacoma (my 1st) for fuel economy. So far overall I am impressed with this truck.
I have the 4 cylinder and there have been times my monitor says I have gotten in the high 20s for MPG on a drive. Mostly around 19-20 though. I have a light foot LOL.

Sometimes it just takes feeling what your engine wants in order to know what speed you should go. In the right gear, with the right wind and incline/decline angle, sometimes 80mph could be the right speed for optimum fuel efficiency. There is no correct speed for best fuel efficiency. I'm on 5.29's now, so my fuel efficiency is in the tank, and my truck just does not want to go fast at all, but sometimes I find myself cruising along at 75 and the engine is totally happy with it, just chillin at like 2300rpm with throttle input maybe once every few seconds to maintain.

Yup, nope. 80 will never be more fuel efficient than whatever lower highway speeds 65-75 for these trucks. In any scenario where 80 is good, 65 will be better.

That said, I always just drive the posted speed. You know, because that’s the posted speed.
