Scuff bumper with maroon scuff pad and 180 grit. Wipe down with degreaser. Properly prepared surface adhesion is key. Which bedliner did you get? Raptor? This is raptor on my bed racks sprayed with a rocker gun at 50psi FBACA3FF-B342-4EE6-9954-1DFF8C575D1D.jpg

Well sadly I cant use some of the same tools as I should. For instance I dont have air compressor to use an actual spray gun. So I got a DIY hand sprayer for cans.

I wanted to use the raptor but after seeing the prodcut and reading; I didnt see a way to use that unless I had an area I could prep this properly (IE sand bumper down. Add primer. Then spray in a more fluent flow).

I just have an apartment with outdoor area to work on the truck. No garage or a spot to prep that way. This is why I planned to use the Rustoluem Bed Liner spray. I also read in a lot of places it work on the painted surface just fine as long as there was no dirt or grime. Bumper hasnt even been taken out of the box yet lol

I get it bro. Tuff to do stuff when you don’t have the space. They do make raptor in a spray can. Check it out. Cans are like $40 a can though. I’m a painter at a body shop so I’m very lucky to place to do my own paint work. Good luck any other questions hit me up. Definitely check out raptor in a can. Videos look like it sprays nice. You will definitely need to mask off an area to spray bumper. Material will overspray definitely protect adjacent areas

I used the Rustoleum bed liner on my back chrome bumper caps. Scuffed them with a pad and sprayed it on. Turned out good and has survived 1 Chicago winter so far and is still in perfect shape. That was being blasted with salt all winter and a weekly touch car wash. So far I'm happy.

I think its this one youre speaking of?

    https://www.amazon.com/U-Pol-Aeroso...pY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1

And the application stated I only needed to prime on a bare surface. Since this is painted; does it still need primed? Youre the professional so that's why im asking you! I trust your opinions more then others.

With chrome I could see why you did a little sanding. Since this is not a bare surface, im uncertain if it needs to be sanded. The bumper is not glossy. I cant tell if its powder coated or just primed in black.

Update: Extreme terrain has in the description that the bumper is black powder coated. So, is there a way for me to still apply a coating that does NOT involve having to sand the whole thing down? The thing is the way it looks now I am fine with. Im just trying to prep it so I do not get rust spots down the road from missed touch ups and what not. Im "preparing" if you will

You don't need to sand the powder coat off. That would be an insane task without a media blaster anyway. Scuff the powder coat thoroughly with a scotchbrite pad, wipe it down with acetone or MEK and hit it. I've used the Rustoleum and Herculiner for things like this. The Herc has worked better. It runs like $11.00 per can at HD. Line-X is better but is expensive.

I've used the Herc on lots of things that get wacked periodically. It's durable, inexpensive, and if you do get some damage it repairs well. When used an bare metal, I scuff the metal thoroughly, clean it with solvent, use an etching primer, and then hit it. I use it on lots of utility applications like carts or racks, et. al. Line-X is too expensive for everything and those guys think they are shooting gold onto whatever you bring in.

So just some scotch brite on PC? PC glossy at all. Seems almost like primer. Looks great. But I thought Pc was little shinier. But it does say PC.
I’ll look into that other stuff too. Honestly never heard of it.

Herc is a DIY bedliner that's been around a long time. I like the spray can version for smaller projects.
You may use some sandpaper. when I think Scotchbrite pads I'm thinking of discs on an air grinder. If you don't have access to one or an angle grinder, you may want to go with sand paper. Just put a good texture on the PC, don't go through it. Either way, you need to make sure it's clean prior to application. I haven't used the Raptor Liner, but it seems to be popular and 71tattooguy is recommending it as a painter, so he probably has a more experience with this.
