Howdy all... So I don't really get it, I can't go to Maine, even if I want to remote camp? This weekend is typically my first ice out fishing trip to Richardson Lakes which I never planned to do but I'm going crazy here. I get that I can't get a reservation at a campground or obviously an Air BnB (my Moosehead trip in late June was cancelled by them), but what are the rules if I just want to go to the lake and wilderness camp- which I know breaks it's own rules, but hey.. what the hell, it's not July. How much trouble will I get in?

I'm all legal, got my Maine sticker and fishing license, I won't need gas or ice or food or beer or anything while I'm there, I will drive into Richardson from my home State of NH and stop nowhere other than the boat ramp, I'll leave my truck there at the launch for 3 days and then load back up and immediately drive to NH.

I know it's wrong but unlike most of you all I live alone and it's been BRUTAL staying here and not doing a single thing for WEEKS.

Come on in. The self-quarantine thing is voluntary, since they can't legally enforce it. And if you're remote camping, just buy your supplies in NH (where it's tax-free anyway), and you can call your remote camping a self-quarantine. Bring your winter jacket, though, because we've had pretty consistent cold North winds for the last couple of weeks.

NOPE. Well. By the rules, you need to quarantine for two weeks.

Will you get caught and is it worth it anyway and is there really no risk? :notsure:

    I am not a lawer.

What do you mean quarantine, where, in my tent? Before I return to NH or after? Both? WTF I don't get it. I'm not stepping foot in a structure during the 3 days I am there, where am I supposed to quarantine?

Your tent, campsite, truck, or boat all would count. They just want to keep you out of the grocery stores, post offices, etc. Publicly frequented places, basically.

PS Yall, good news/bad news I guess - the Toyota maintenance team took care of their lug nut problems without any concerns, they did a good job (this time) so I won't name/shame. I will not be going back for services there, but won't be dragging them through the mud.

You shall stay there, alone, for 14 days, without leaving and going home at all. You must remain in place for 14 days.

But seriously, they just want you to self-isolate for 14 days before integrating into the community with their boundaries, to ensure that you are not sick before you start going to the grocery store/etc. It being a "rule" allows the gubment to enforce hotels, campgrounds, etc to not accept out of state visitors. You're good, I'm just ragging :p

But then you could get salmonella. :rimshot:

Yeah, like 26 hours and change in an Audi A8, I think.

I went out to my usual camping spot last week just to get out of the house, and they had signs up everywhere saying “no camping until further notice”. There was also a truck driving up and down the road checking the sites. This was out past the Airline diner, but I’d imagine most state owned camping areas are doing the same. It’s a shame, we have a big trip out there every year that we can’t do this year.

State owned, sure. But they apparently can't keep the private ones shut down: I drove past the Augusta/Gardiner KOA on rt 201 last night and they had to have 20 RV's parked in the lots. :notsure:

Edit- Here's the message that the campground that the GF and I frequent has posted on their website.

26h 38m. I can't imagine how fast the average speed must be. It takes me 22h to get from Providence to Tampa only stopping for gas/food/bathroom break, and that's half of the distance.

huh. Hopefully it helps keep some of those places open. Not my style of camping, but I hate to see anyone go out of business.

    No kidding!
That’s the kind of camping we do as well. Usually out to the machias River site by crooked river.

Well it's roughly 2800 miles, depending on the route. So that would require an AVERAGE of roughly 105mph, which is nuts because if they're spending X amount of time doing zero mph (for fuel/bathroom breaks) imagine how fast they were going to make up the time...

A lot of these people who do this cannonball run have spotter cars that will intentionally get popped for speeding to distract the officers. I'm wondering if that has anything to do with the people who got pulled over for doing like 138. I don't know how dedicated they are to distracting cops :D

I think you piss in a bucket I would assume. Car to car refueling? I don't know, never really followed this trend.

105 is fast but like, wide open flat highways in the breadbasket, if you have a capable car and there's nobody around, 105 is nothing for a race driver. I am not a race driver, though.

I'm thinking the faster you go, the more fuel your car consumes, so more frequent gas stops. I also imagine after X amount of hours, they'll need a caffeinated drink of some sort, so more piss breaks :notsure:

105 isn't bad. I've been up to 160, but wouldn't want to maintain that speed for long periods of time.

That's average, though. There's no way they can do 105 in NYC, or in the more populated areas they'd be going through. And the faster they go between fuel stops, the more fuel they're using, so the more fuel stops they need to make. So there were some lengths of time where they'd have to go MUCH faster than 105. Like when I used to drive to Milbridge regularly to do maintenance for the Grands; I would reset the trip odometer before I leave and even though most of the trip was on I-95 and Route 1, when I got there my average speed for the trip as a whole was only like 40mph because of time spent in towns, or because I stopped for 5 minutes to drain the lizard. :notsure:

Who needs caffeine? The adrenaline alone would keep me going for 26 hours!
