i know my garage has a an abundance of mice. I've been lazy (hopeless) about combatting the population. that's gonna have to change. The thing is, only on the occasional moto friendly weekend does my truck not move every single day. what you don't see in the photo is the basket ball sized wad of shredded fabric that accompanied these guys. I have (had) a couple of those quilted moving blankets in the garage. a solid 15ft away from the back of my truck. The time and energy that went into bringing all of that across the garage/up the tire/suspension/firewall, under the fairing and past the intake screen (pictured) is amazing to me.

I got in the truck Sunday morning and thought it smelled a little funky and thought I'd check the filter. It's impressive, really.

    Wow.

I worry about them chewing through wiring. I have a screen over my HVAC intake too. 1/4" galvanized. I've got it molded to the shape of the hole very tightly. Hope it's enough too keep them out.

    20181111_115558.jpg

But I also spray this stuff on my wire harnesses from the top and from below at every oil change.

After seeing the damage they inflicted on my buddy's '16 4Runner....I try to take precautions against them.

i had the wire mesh fairly well formed, but I was thinking about vegetation getting sucked in (maple whirlygigs, various seeds and stuff) not a thinking rodent. Where you used screws I used wire ties. Held in place but clearly, it was easily displaced.

    Great idea with the spray.

Yeah...I used some stainless steel nuts and bolts. I clamped the screen down very tightly all along the rim of the opening. And you can see I ran up the firewall some and really formed it hard against it. I was hoping that trying to force there way down a couple of inches of tightly compressed screen would deter them.

I don't remember if I mentioned my friend's 4Runner story on this thread or not. I have in a couple of others.

I don't think I've heard it, but I had an Impala need a 1400.00 harness replacement due to Mice a few years back. Completely different location, never saw any signs of mice prior. So I'm aware how much damage they can do.

2016 4Runner SR5. Leaves for work 1 morning notice a bit of rough running and a CEL. Goes on to work then back home that evening. Calls the dealership to set up a warranty appointment. Next morning the rig won't start. Has it towed to the dealership. An hour later they call him to say he has $3500 worth of mangled engine wire harnesses. Obviously not covered under warranty. Plus they stick him with a diagnostic fee and the tow.

He spends the next 4 weeks going round in round with State Farm. Eventually they reluctantly agree to cover it minus his deductible. His rig then spends 2 more weeks at the dealership waiting on parts and being dismantled for new harnesses.

Mice look for warm places to nest. Vehicles make perfect places with all their little nooks and crannies. They constantly chew to keep their incisors short. They love to chew on medium density materials...not to hard, not to soft....i.e. plastic, wiring, etc. They're gonna chew no matter what. The soy probably does help matters

morning stockers. Big plans for Lucille this weekend. Audio makeover and Supertop going on, both catalyzed by that trailering road trip I was tellin' all ya'll about. Gonna get a deck gussied up for naps along the road too.
