I think the short bed is better for city driving. Shorter wheel base = smaller turn radius. I still voted long bed though. Things like drywall, backer board, and lumber in general fits a lot better in it.

From a purely ascetic stand point I like the long bed better. Looks more like a truck to me. *shrug* It's really a matter of personal opinion and intended use though.

I vote longbed...longer wheel base smoother ride on the superslab.;) And easy to park with backup camera :)

    Scanguage.....i'm working on more lol
I have a DC long bed. I like the utility, but damn the truck is long. Barely fits into my garage. I like it because it easily hauls a 4X8 sheet, the only gripe I have is a 4X8 barely hangs over the lip on the wheel wells. Toyota should have either made the wells a little bigger so the sheet lays on top of them, or a little smaller so the sheet can fit in the middle.

Place a 2x6 into the front set of notches in the bedsides . Then your sheet goods will lay in there , nicely supported by the 2x6 and the tailgate .

    :)

Not actually that useful though. The long bed is really a minimum size to lay full sheets of drywall or plywood down. At least on my first gen it's just big enough.

Can't do 5' - I have to haul an upright bass.

    Also: camping.

Me too! But the sb works if you put her at an angle. ...at least it does with my '42 Kay.

I like the look of the short bed, but the long bed is a lot more practical.

Well that's good to know - I stand corrected! :) (Had to go diagonal with my previous 6' bed and just assumed anything shorter wouldn't work at all.)

Still, no regrets here (like I have any choice on my single-cab base model).

I routinely use the extra capacity. And FWIW I prefer the look (the OP was asking ;)).

Interesting. You must have a long bass! When I had the long bed she fit along the long axis of the bed and didn't have to angle anything. In the SB, I do transport it on the side (neck supported with bungees) because it won't fit lying on its back...the lower bouts are too wide and won't let the tail block fit nicely in the corner.

Maybe I have a clunky end-pin - my old Kay bass measures about 74 1/2" tall.

I've always put my bass in on its side. I usually go slightly diagonal but I can go straight back if I prop the neck up on my larger speaker cabinet. (This is proving very handy while my drummer's license is suspended.)

We should start a thread for Taco drivers who play upright bass!

I think this would be a club of two. ;)

I do have a new-ish ebony endpin, not the original metal version. Speaker cabs in the corner by the back, head and gear bag in the corner near the front.

So many discussions of short vs. long.

I have the short bed and love it. can't imagine trying to park a long bed.

Please no hater's, but this is the truck I gave to my brother.

Probably would have lost it if you watched him using the jumper cables from the Tracker to jump start the Ford.
