So the engine rpms are going up as you descend a hill in gear in 4 low, is that the problem? That's normal. Nothing to do to fix it.

Going downhill in 4lo is sure to be higher than 1200 rip-ems. There's a sweet spot in rpm where the most engine braking occurs, he's likely beyond that which is what he's experiencing

Yeah, I noticed it when I was messing with S mode in 4Lo just learning how the truck responded, I was not on a section of trail that warranted 1 gear low range engine breaking

Lol I got out of there before it completely sucked out the rest of my sanity.

I can only imagine what it’s like if you don’t fill someone’s Suboxone or Hydros or something on time...god forbid

I have never worked at a dealership. But after spending time on TW, I get it.

“I hear a clicky sound somehwere”

“This piece of plastic is a different texture... why? This is a $40k truck thingy”

    “Sometimes my transmission feels chunky”

“I installed this LED and now my truck doesn’t start this isn’t my fault”

“I think I have rust under my carpet because I only had 6 cupholders and I had to hold my 7th cup in my lap and then it spilled when I was turning into the Barnes and noble driveway and there was kombucha EVERYWHERE”

    “why come does it do”

    Nailed it.

M/T does the exact same thing. Not sure why some ppl in here are jumping on the OP.. oh well, TW.
    The cycle:
Rolling downhill, no gas/brakes - truck will speed up until approx 2500rpm, then DFCO kills the firemaker and the truck slows down until about 1200rpm. DFCO deactivates, firemaker back on, truck speeds up.
OP, they all do this (3rd gen V6). It's in the programming.
Unfortunately your local tech who is apparently about to lose his mind due to a legitimate question, can't do a thing to help you.
And yes, I know it's DFCO because some of us asked OVtune to look into ways to stop that annoying cycle. He got it to work in 2nd to 6th, whereby the truck will have consistent engine braking when you lift, all the way down to just above idle (in the V6 M/T at least, not sure about A/T). AFAIK there were other factors in play (complex coding) that prevented the same thing in 1st gear.

Always the joker. You know very well I'm speaking of the V6.
Just edited my post for clarity.

Thanks for providing good information! I've also experienced this, but just chalked it up to a bunch of weird behavior with this motor. It definitely doesn't predictably engine brake compared to anything I've ever driven, on or off road.

Exactly, and that's why questions arise. It's just different.

OP do you have a manual? Like everyone else I'm struggling to understand the issue but if you give us that info it may make things slightly clearer...

Sorry mate missed it first time around when it flashed for half a second while I was distracted by the twenty warning lights in the bouncy, grainy Bigfoot sighting video.

It's an automatic, for anyone else who missed it.
