From what I've read, the port-installed black 'Tacoma' and 'V6' badging are just overlays?
Is it pretty easy to remove them (without damage) to revert back to the silver badging? Just double-sided tape?

clarification: removing just the black overlays and leaving the silver badges.

Yes, they are easy to remove. I do this on all of my cars as I personally dislike all the badges they put on. I removed mine using my wife's hair dryer to loosen up the glue, then slid fishing line behind the badge to saw/cut them off, then finished up with Goo Gone to clean up the remaining adhesive. I also washed the area after using the Goo Gone as I didn't want any of it sitting on the paint. Just take your time with the fishing line part and you'll be fine.

I think the badges themselves are easy to remove- but I think the ones that come blacked out from the factory are actually black badges and not just overlays...

sounds like he wants to keep the badging and just remove the black overlay.

I'd guess the badges from the factory are black and not just an overlay tho

Are the black badges a factory option, or a port-installed option?

I have no idea. If I didn't like the badge color, I'd just spray em the color I wanted and be done with it.

Probably not overlays, like this guy says. Just a guess. Overlays are kind of an easy hack for guys to do it at home, but I'd be surprised if a new truck came from the port with them.

So just slide a blade under one corner and pry them off?

clarification: removing just the black overlay and leaving the silver badges underneath.

I used fishing line to remove mine. Just like flossing... then goo gone or similar to remove the residue.

As I mentioned in my first post, I took mine off. I had the same $160 black option as yours. I have them hanging in my garage and just took a look at them. It looks like you can just pry them off. I stuck a hook pick in one of the corners and was able to pull them up a bit. I didn't realize these were just overlays. I thought the whole badge was black, not just a black piece stuck over the stock one. Also, I don't know what the "chrome" underneath would look like after you take the black off.

Side note, it is crazy to me this is a $160 option. I didn't think much of it when I bought my Tacoma as this option wasn't important to me, but now that I look at them, $160 for 3 black covers to go over stock badges is waaaay over priced.

I know right? $160 for black badges and $95 for a black exhaust tip.
