So the market dips over 3% this morning for who knows why and now we’re looking to finish the day in green? What?

 

Not sure how we will finish the day, but eventually the prices got sellers to be buyers. It’s nice to just see it stop dropping for a bit so I can assess buy and sell points from here.

 

Annnnd it's all green....except airlines

 

So we're back to business as usual.

Yeah I think we're going to see a lot of these cycles in the near future. Not as dramatic as the -12% we saw before, but I think there's going to be a lot of sinusoidal type movements, headlines:

- Investors nervous, stocks down
- Investors anticipate reopening, stocks rise

This will continue for a while. I think we'll see a slow up trend recovering out of this with these ups and downs mixed in. I don't think we're going to see a "green light" moment, I think we're past a "reopening ceremony" type of thing, it's going to be a staggered process with steps and stages and no clearly defined end point.

 

I think only a vaccine could do that at this point.

It’s too political now. You have one side saying we need to stay closed forever; the other side is saying don’t you dare wear a mask. It’s pathetic honestly.

 

Delta announced they are mothballing their 777 fleet should have phased out the (JESUSFINGCHRIST THEY ARE STILL FLYING) MD-88's and MD-90 fleets to June

 

There's a reason the McDonnell Dougs are still going...They were and still are great planes. Heck, we just got a contract these past few months with the USAF for repairs of components for the B2 planes...there's a reason we still use some old stuff, it's a grunt worker that is reliable and gets the job done, and we can beat on them and if it gets lost/scrapped out due to a hard landing.....

I think they're turning some of them into hurricane planes too.

If a vaccine comes out we will see a huge spike in the market and a huge relief, buuuuut it will take years to be mass produced and rolled out, so the market would contract (not nearly as much though) within a few weeks once people realize it's not a tomorrow sort of thing.

 

I just always think of that f#@$ing Jack Screw on the MD-80...

 

As someone who works in aircraft maintenance, I don't worry about it anymore. Modern controls and maintenance procedures, that sort of thing can happen but there's so much oversight and modern engine manuals are computer controlled with much better testing methods.

1999 was both forever ago and just yesterday in the aero industry. I like to give the example - we run 20 year old machines, by the time planes go through design, testing of the components, testing of the assembly, etc., manufacturing capacity reviews and approvals, and all regulatory reviews and approvals needed....A BRAND NEW PLANE is already about 25 years old in terms of the technology used on it.

Smoking only started being banned on airplanes in 1988 and it was a phase in. They started domestic puddle jumpers, then long haulers, then international. It was only completely stopped in 2000. One of the guys I work with was talking about Y2K and they quietly banned smoking in the shadow of the Y2K scare. Apparently. I wasn't there (or coherent enough) to know if he's talking BS.

For those that use Fidelity. Looking for something better than RH, i have a couple of accounts with Fidelity and thinking of using it for stocks. Would open a new account with Fidelity as not to play with funds from ira’s. RH allows trading before funds are deposited. How long does it take for funds to be deposited and available for buying with Fidelity?

 

They'll all sort of use the same philosophy that you've initiated the transfer and can trade with the funds. I thought RH did that too? TD does that, usually they pull within a day and they post within a few days for me (TD, not Fidelity, to be fair).
