For those of you who upgraded to component speakers how di you mount the tweeters. I put them in the factory dash spot and the reflections from the windshield are terrible. It sounds so harsh I cant listen to it. I'm working with morel tempo ultra 6x9 comps and an arc audio x2 600.4 amp. I tried 2 other sets of tweeters with the same results. Think my next move is a good head unit and run active so I came tame the tweeter , unless someone has a better suggestion

Do you have the tweeter wired to the +2db spot on the crossover? If so, try a lower one.

you can also drop the highs down on the radio EQ.

the morel tweeters are silk dome which are some of the least-harsh you can get. If you have the tweeter connected to -2db and the highs down on the radio, it may certainly be time for a new radio with a better EQ, or running them active With a DSP

image6.jpg I had custom sail panels made plus run active...huge improvement. I agree - the stock location is terrible.

I have the passives set to -2 and lowered treble a little. The more I lower it the more flat everything sounds.I'm really thinking the stock entune head unit is my problem. I really wanted to keep it but it just sounds terrible. I also tried some massive audio ct2 silk tweeters that sounded awesome in my nissan truck.I was just wondering if anyone had any luck firing into the glass.

I would do that in a heartbeat if I knew someone to build them. There is no room behind without building them out or fiberglassing

Which dsp would you recommend. I already have a 4 ch amp and a sub amp. I was thinking a good kenwood head unit with 3 way active crossover but still feel like the tweeter is in a bad location

Something like the AudioControl DM810 is always a good option. If you’re planning on swapping the radio as well, I might do that first and try some of the radio’s EQ settings and see if you can get it where you’re happy. If not, then drop the coin on a DSP and go active, time alignment, the whole nine

Thanks Destin. The plan was to go active with a nice head unit. I did that in my Frontier and it sounded great. I just don't understand why 3 different sets of tweets sound so bad up there. I also had the kicker subaru tweeters and cut the capacitor off and tried them. All 3 sets sound nasty as soon as I turn it up loud

I just put Morels in my truck and they sound incredible. Sounds like an EQ or crossover thing as others have mentioned.

Are you using the passive xovers and factory head unit ? I actually lowered the mid on the crappy stock head unit today and it helped a lot with the harshness. I really wanted to keep the stock entune radio but I know they will sound a lot better with a nice head unit and running active

I'm using the passive xovers but have a Kenwood DMX906S. If you're going to try and build a solid system I'd highly recommend getting a nice head unit.

I figured as much. I've built plenty of great systems but just got this truck in november and slowly putting it together. I had some amps already and figured I would see how bad the factory head unit was.Never did a system with factory and now I know why. Was just wanting to keep it stock looking but no way is this acceptable for my ears. Last truck was a nice head unit with 3 way active xovers. Hertz hsk 165 xl and 2 sundown x10"s ported. Got loud as hell and sounded crystal clear. I will be ordering a head unit probably next week

One last question ? what dash kit did you use and does it sit flush like the oem head unit or is it sunk in like most of them. Got a picture ?

I used the Metra kit. It does not sit totally flush. Ordered 3 different ones and the Metra looked the best. The finish is pretty nice too. I know a lot of people try to keep stock since it fills out the dash better but I don’t mind the look at all. After a few days I didn’t even notice. Will snap a pic tomorrow when it’s light out.

So,got the kenwood and idatalink all installed and have been trying everything and these speakers still sound like pure garbage at high volume. I have to eq so much it makes the music sound flat. Got the arc audio x2 600.4 running active off the headunit. I'v tried bandpass the mids from 80-2500 , 4000 , 5000 and same with tweeters. It's the tweeters I believe causing the problem. I disconnect them and most of the harshness goes away. Gains on mids and tweets are all the way down and i dropped the tweeter to -6 on the kenwood xover. I just dont understand why they sound so bad. I also tried with the passive xovers and same results. I know the dash isn't ideal for tweeters but I've had success in the past. Any ideas ? got a lot of money in this and doesn't sound any better than the cheap kicker upgrade with the factory head unit. The wireless carplay is sweet though

Are the tweeters mounted tight up against the underside of the grill, with a foam surround to seal it to the grille's waveguide?

    That's all I've got.:notsure:
