I’ve had a Fidelity account for years. It usually funds for me by midnight of the same day. Even before it exits from my bank account. My work provides the account as I purchase stock quarterly at a discount price from them.

On RH it will give you up to $1,000 instantly as soon as you initiate the transfer. If you are a gold member it will give you up to $6,000 immediately as soon as you initiate the transfer. Anything over that takes 2-3 business days.

I have had funds available within the hour with TD and my bank...The only issue is you cannot buy shares under $5 until it clears

Were you in the market in March? Surely you had a worse day then?

No the crash in March is what got me to open my first account. I jumped in probably 2 days after it hit bottom

Well then I wouldn’t even pay attention day to day just let it ride. I don’t think we’re hitting those lows again.

good to know. They’re all similar but subtle differences I guess it depends what works for you. If you like sub 5 dollar shares for example.

which account and what strategy? My boring investment account and 401k...haven’t looked since feb. once the first crash day happened I said no. But my Monopoly money “day” trading is different.

Actually that’s a lie I did look at my retirement. I think it’s healthy to look when the market tanks like this so you have an actual experience of market downturn and then recovery. I know my retirement will come back. I know my investments will come back. If they don’t by the time I retire then it’s mad max style anyway so screw it who cares. Having that history of “oh wow this ranked but it came back I didn’t bail out and lost out on the investment opportunity when it was low” is healthy though in my opinion. As long as you know to stick with it.

    :duh:

I didn't want to look at my 401K but I did....and I'm down 13% for the year and basically based on my depositing down about 10%...It's already rebounding. I rebalanced and got out of some crap funds. No foreign/risky funds, Stopped buying real estate funds...Interesting note, of the 30+ funds available for our 401K ONE of them beat the market...ONE all the rest were 1-2% below the S&P or Russle2k or whatever index they are compared to...and that % is about the management cost...So you see the scam of 401K funds only offering Manged funds and no index funds...

My Roth and my regular brokerage. My strategy was/is to dump most my savings and as much of every paycheck into these accounts and take advantage of the low buys

smart move. Individual stocks or etfs?

my 401k is company managed. Black rock 2060. But my Roth is currently with betterment. My first step is moving my general account to self directing then I’ll roll my Roth to self directing. Basically just investing in the same etfs that betterment is doing.

I know a 62 year old who wants to retire when he’s almost 67. He has 50% in bonds and 50% in stonks. He’s a little worried about recovery of what he lost and I told him within 5 years he’ll find a good selling point.
That’s a little aggressive to be so close to retirement though.

Hmm about 50/50. My ETF’s are mostly leveraged funds though, I’m staying away from SP500 ETF type funds until the market smooths out. I’m in it to make a lot of money and then be a bit more conservative lol

It is, but it might not be easy scaling back the aggression when you hit 60 and the market is humming along. You think, nice returns like this for just a couple more years and I’ll be in real good shape. And then one of the most unique disruptions in global economy happens. Such is life I guess.

Depending on how much capital he has, it could be easy to turn it into a safe income stream.

Everyday is painful to watch. That's why I usually just set limit stops and go about my day. I catch 15 minutes of market action in the morning then go to work. I check again at lunch then when I get home. I was loosing money when I left for work. When I checked at lunch I was way up on my NVDA options. I'd really like to day trade but I'm a better carpenter then I am trader. lol

I'm currently telecommuting from home, so it's either watch the market or drink margaritas all day long. :proposetoast:
