I have a 2013 4.0 with a 6 speed manual. Trying to decide if I should go with a turbo or a supercharge upgrade? I'm more of a supercharge guy. Thoughts?

    None... yet
Well, there's already a TRD supercharger that is basically a bolt on. A turbo you would need to custom fabricate most of it.

I would go with whatever is in the market that's a direct bolt on, and that means a supercharger.

This for sure. Supercharge, and reflash ecu. There is a big thread on trd/magnusson supercharger with a lot of owners who are very helpful and enthusiastic about this, so lots of support here.

Turbo would be best but with the way our headers are designed you would be hard pressed to find a kit for these vehicles. Even then, a single turbo would be much more difficult to route than two twins.

For the trouble it's worth, superchargers are a much easier install and much less of a headache. Power gains won't be substantial like a turbo but there is alot more support for the supercharger.

sorry for my laps in reply, working out of town. everyone has been a big help. i was leaning to supercharger and from everything i could gather, it is the easier and better way. looks like the design is clean and just a swap over to it, unlike the turbo charged. never been a big fan of turbo anyway.
thanks again gentleman and everyone be safe out there.

turbos are fantastic, but like everyone has mentioned, it’s a bit of a pain...especially to do it right.

superchargers are much easier and more convenient.

Basics. Tires, painted headlighes, UHLM, baby winch in the bed, and heated mirrors :)
How much boost can the stock 1GR take anyway? Between block/head/internals as well as fuel delivery? I understand it's a pretty solid platform but wondering how difficult it is to maintain reliability with power adders.

Turbos have always tickled my fancy, haven't given it any serious thought with this engine yet though.

My silly ass would be tempted to chuck a twin turbo 1GZ in this thing just for shitzengiggles. lol

OVT (orange Virus tuning) just released a twin turbo kit for the 3rd Gen's although there has not been any word if they will develop one for the 2nd Gen's.

I was looking forward to a SC kit for the 3rd gen and have been patiently waiting for 2 years for one to come to market. Both Magnuson and Harrop have one in development which has stalled out.

Although a SC kit is much easier to install with a more simplistic design, the TT kit offers much more low end torque (area under the curve).

thank you all for the input, i'm still sitting firmly on that damn fence though. much of this is if i decide to get a camper to haul. for now the stock 4.0 is doing me right. i was really surprised how hard it was to find an old 6 speed manual. guess i'm a dying breed that loves stick shift.
