    This is the latest one, it’s a Code 3 MX7000 from the San Mateo PD. Polished the lenses up real good and replaced a seized motor for one of the spinners.

    I keep trying to make this one work but it’s a bitch, it’s a Federal Signal Vector.

    It’s a very unique and iconic design, but the Smart Pods that have the stepper motor doesn’t want to do the right thing at the right time. The middle pods can be front or rear work lights, intersection clearers, strobes, or alley lights. The left pod is stuck on left alley for some reason and I don’t know why.

    It was also sitting in the sun for god knows how long so all the rotator mounting posts are cracked. Need to figure something out.

    Las Vegas Metro PD and the NYPD use this bar.

    @Wulf

    Also here’s the 1960’s era Federal Signal siren unit I hooked Bluetooth up to. Something really funny about hearing COPS play off of it.

    Man that sounds like quite the project. It is a really cool piece though. Haven't seen one like that in a long time

    It must take a lot of patience to work with all the different electronics involved and get it all working together

    They’re actually very simple at the heart of it. It’s just 12v going to motors and lights at the right time. You can power any function of the bar by applying ground and 12v to any of the wires. It’s purely mechanical, no computer control.

    The FedSig Vector on the other hand has an annoying PCB control board and other microcontrollers to make the SmartPods work.

    The oldest one I have is a Code 3 XL 9000 I pulled off an ambulance in Vegas. It literally uses the landscaping light bulbs it’s so primitive. Factory Date code of 1986 I think.

    40BABFD5-ED01-4446-BAAC-5125DCC103E1.jpg

    It’s so prehistoric compared to the modern ones they use now. Everything is LED now with no moving parts.

    Huh, don't think that I'd have thought about the lack of need any of the motors or reflectors that they used to

    It's funny how state of the art seems so out of touch after some time
