Harnesses to retain SWC + JBL

I have a 2008 with the JBL system. Looking to add a tablet for the “headunit” connected to a hidden single DIN somewhere. Trying to figure out which harnesses I’ll need to retain steering wheel controls and the JBL factory gear.

I know that Crutchfield sells everything I need, but I thought there might be a little cheaper solution. The two harnesses I’ve found are the following:

Is this all I’ll need to keep steering wheel controls and factory amp/sub?

If so, what requirements would the head unit need for connections?

Going through Crutchfield it’s roughly $135 for a head unit/install gear. The one downside of going through them is being limited to newer HU’s in order to get the discounted install gear.

Being able to use these two harnesses and buying a dash kit would make the install gear around $30 less than Crutchfield and be able to use virtually any HU that has the right connections. Might not seem like much, but when trying to convince the wife so spend more $$ on “unnecessary” items, every bit helps.

 

The SWC part you listed is just a harness to be used with the axxess ASWC module. The module is another $60 or so

the JBL harness you posted doesn’t look right. The connectors don’t look like what I’m used to seeing.

I would get the PAC RP4.2-ty11 and it will do everything you need.

 

Will the PAC be plug and play with most if not all head units?

 

All harnesses will need splicing to the radio’s harness, but it will plug directly into the vehicles wiring

 

Just found another possibility, it’s the same part Crutchfield sells... does this look like it’ll work? Judging by pictures it seems the same.

I’m personally using a pioneer radio, not a tablet. Tablets don’t provide very much functionality for what most people actually use a head unit for.

As long as you don’t want decent FM radio, or a backup camera, or dedicated nav, you’ll be all set lol.

if it was me, I’d look at a typical head unit, and then just get a standard RAM mount for a tablet on an arm that can be placed within reach
