Preventing hail damage

LOLI can't imagine my coworkers looking at me doing this to my truck. I can just hear them laughing and calling me the "noodle mobile man" etc, etc.

If you have notification of hail or storms then drive it to a secure area and wait it out. If you don’t have notification, get yourself and your family to safety. At the end of the day, it’s just a hunk of metal. Throwing covers on it when a short-notice dangerous storm is inbound sounds a bit foolish to me.

 

I've used ratchet straps to hold flattened/deconstructed cardboard boxes to vehicles before, seemed to work for me on all body panels/ windows.

 

Worry makes it sound like it's an excessive concern - I mean you came off as if being concerned about expensive damage shouldn't be a concern - I don't see that as excessive.

 

My experience is high winds accompanying hail if it make it to me. It's a violent clash of air.

What? What do you mean “it sounds like”? The definition of concern is worry. Words have meaning... & whether or not you find it “excessive” is purely subjective. That wasn’t the point anyway... You’re worried about hail damage. I’m not. Period.

 

I live in a place that rarely sees hail, these guys live in a place that gets golf ball size hail stones and want to save themselves a little time and effort.

You have full coverage on your truck therefore you must have concerns about it being stolen or damaged - would you like me saying you are "worried" about your truck in the same way you talked about these guys "worrying about hail?"

I don't see anything excessive about having some ways to protect one's investment - many thoughtful guys would contend chance favors the prepared mind.

 

I disagree on the time & effort thing. Always having to cover your vehicle seems like a waste of time and effort to me... & you’re wrong again. I have full coverage because it’s mandated by law. That’s it ... & you can say whatever you’d like. You won’t hurt my feelings. I’m really not worried about it.

 

Managing an insurance claim is a longer and frustrating process than throwing a car cover with some towels under it imo, but you're right it's only an opinion. I couldn't find any states that require comprehensive insurance - only liability. I actually was more concerned about other people's intentions being ridiculed, not wanting anyone's feelings to be hurt for sure so my bad if it came through like that!

 

Right, only liability if paid off. My truck is a year old, not paid off yet, hence full coverage mandated by law here... & it really depends on the insurance company. Some are better than others when it comes to filing a claim... & i didn’t ridicule anyone. Someone asked “why is it so hard to understand”, & I tried to simply explain in my first post that it wasn’t about understanding, but about how some people worry about shit that other people don’t. & now we’re here. But no apologies are needed, dude. Don’t worry about that either

 

I try to protect my truck from any minor damage because my insurance has a $500 deductible and my policy goes up more than $500 a year for 3 years if I make any claims. That's $2000+

 

LMAO! I'm in North Texas and I couldn't agree more with this. "This weekend we are predicting beautiful clear skies with no chance of rain" and then a few days later, "this was has been worst hail storm/tornado/flood we have had on record so far this year". lol

 

I don't do much since the truck can't fit in the garage and any covering will most likely just blow off. That and nothing is going to really protect from the serious storms. I feel like most of the people laughing at this have never seen real hail. Like baseball size hail. Google the storms from Colorado Springs a few years back. The images of cars looks like images from a war torn third world country.

 

Trees can provide good protection. I just move any vehicles that won't fit in the garage to under the natural canopy of my driveway. This may work for some of you if you never thought of it.
