    Hello Everyone,
I have been looking at Tacoma world since I purchased my Tacoma about 6 months ago. I havn't posted that much but since I figured out my password again I will start being a more active member! The mods are about to begin. I have a 2010 regular cab 4x4. I wanted to get yalls opion on some mods that I want to do in the future. Im stuck between no lift and 235/85/16s and 3 inch lift and 255/85/16s. The problem that I have is that im in sales and i put between 25,000 and 30,000 miles on my truck in a year and im worried that the lift and extra size will cause relaibilty issues. What are your thoughts on this?

My currents mods are husky floor mats, and I took advantage of the wet okolee group buy, but they havn't come in yet.

Future mods will be all pro front and rear bumper and possibly there new tire rack.

probably no reliability issues...things wear faster ie breaks uca's thats about it. if you are going to do a 3'' you can go bigger with the tires too..like 265 85 or something..thie biggest thing for tou to consider if you drive a lot i commute about 30-40k a year and gas milage is something you have to be willing to give up. it doesnt go down much i went from about 20-22mpg to 17-19 mpg but you feel it a little..other than that have fun with it...enjoy

Thanks Dirty, MPG's is not a big concern the company I work for pays for my gas. I like tall and skinny tires. I just dont want to worry about the engine and transmission from pushing the larger tires.

    He called us experts hehehehehe........
I say you get some billstein 5100's lift them to 2.5'' and than get some 285/75/16 all terrain tires (since you do alot of road driving) do a toytec rear AAL 1.5 to level it out. Than do all the small little mods BHLM, window tint, Wet Okle seat covers, wheels the whole deal

you have the 2.7 youre gonna feel some lag for sure but the skinny tires will help with that. and thats rad they pay for gas! if thats the case go huge hahaha

If your concerned about reliability, then you just need to structure the lift you do to your truck (if any) around that. You can do a fairly conservative lift of about 2 inchs with Bilstein 5100 shocks in the front and AAL in the rear. This wouldn't cause any real issues whatsover.

However, if your going to 3 inchs or more, based on info on this site there are some things to consider. Since your 4x4, your CV angles are going to change with a lift. Something more extreme like a 6 inch lift may cause real long term problems. With a 3 inch lift you can do a differential drop and minimize the CV angle change.

Also, for the tire thing, why do you want such skinny tires? 265's are probably gonna be your best bet. Since your going to be putting so many miles on them, you want tires that have a pretty good treadwear reputation as well. Many people have had good luck with the BF Goodrich AT KO's, some getting over 70k miles out of them, and its still capable offroad.

255/85s are a bit much without regear

i installed 265/75s and the power loss is very noticeable

i wanted 235/85s but got a better price on 265s. i plan on at least 4.56s for 255/85s discoverer stt in the spring

Well Im going to go with KM2's only because I like the way they look. I only go offroad to get to hunting and fishing spots which is like once or twice a week. Billstein all around or just the front? Whats the cost of a set up like that?

hmm yeah I really don't want to regear....ive read many different opions on wether or not you need to regear for 255/85's..... I like the look of the 235's over the 265's for some reason...Im not a fan of wide tires. The fact that its less exspensive is great too

no just a crappy spacer... no billies for me, i plan on buying some coilovers but the offroad mods are taking priority. things like sliders, bumper, rear locker, skid plates, then ill get better suspension. ive had the spacer over a year and no issues so im in no rush for a lift
