image.jpg image.jpg This is my setup and after looking at this thread I’ve got some modifying to do and some cleanup for the weekend coming lol. I’ve got a JL audio CPLG8w3v3 sub with JL audio xd700/5v2 (not shown in above pic) powering it and even at 180 w RMS this little dude sounds great and accurate for my “wanna be” SQ setup! Got the jd 400/4 powering mids and tweets in focal flax 3 way component setup and the JL XD handling the power to front and rear 6.5” flax with JL twk 88 dsp. Really considering upgrading to the JL HD 900.5 for door speakers and doing away with the although the JD is a good amp for mids and highs imo. Just want a little more power

Finally wrapped my box with carpet, so I guess it's presentable now. JL Audio 10"W3V3 in a box from Mr. Marv. Threw on some Dayton Audio binding posts for a cleaner look. Currently powered off a RD 900/5.

I had a JL 10W3V3 in a similar box, but it wasn’t from Mr.Marv, it was a pre built box from another company. It wasn’t the bass I was looking for. Now I run 2 8’s in a ported box. BTW I like those dayton audio binding terminals. Quick and easy access and big enough for 10 gauge speaker wire. Too bad I threw it away with the box.

Which pair of 8s are you running? Mind posting box specs?

I do not have photos but the guy that I got my box built has it on his instagram here’s the link

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B07xPDyhTe1/?igshid=w2jhlzowaafl

Some cheap budget skars sdr-8’s. Box tuned to 35hz. No cutting of body, or brackets for the box. Only needed remove rear storage but I already have a diamond back cover with tool box for things so no need for bins.

Edit: The rattling you hear is from the vent flaps. I also added noico 80mil deadener on lower part of back wall.

Definitely hits pretty hard, my rear view mirror starts to have seizures right a little below the half way mark on my volume knob. You probably won't hear from a block away, but it's more than enough especially with the windows up. I had it in a ported box before in my previous vehicle and it hit the super low frequencies pretty well. In this sealed box it does struggle a bit with those frequencies, but the sound quality is much better as it's not so boomy anymore.

Damn those 8's seem like they bump for sure.

If the rear vent rattle annoys you this might help. I used some duct seal compound and filled in the gaps where the rear vent meets the back wall so there would be no movement of the vent at all. You'll notice that if you grab the vent and move it around, it has a good amount of play and makes a ton of noise. Probably reduced the rattle by more than half in the cab which I can't even really hear in cab anymore, but you can still that stupid little flap from the outside.

I used this since I had a few bricks laying around. Im sure you can use sound deadener to secure it too.

I've been eyeballing those Skars... wondering if two in a sealed box would be much louder than the single 8" sealed Comp R I have now.

They do bump for what they are, box is a little under specs for volume due to the design to fit below the bar. But it gets down for sure. I’ll try to add deadener around the vents, it’s a gummy material so I could probably fill in the gaps a little. Thanks for the tip on that duct seal. Will get around to it eventually haha.

I believe these subs allow for sealed enclosures. Skar sdr 8’s, get a custom box and your good. I have about 900 watts rms going to these at 2 ohm. I have a kicker comp rt 10” was gonna go into a pre fab sealed box that was gonna get paired with the rockford prime 750. But went this route instead.

Just placed order from crutchfield for the dual 8 ported microsub. Will update when installed but I would imagine with shipping and then myself out of town this weekend will probably be middle to end of next week.

That amp is massive! Should’ve asked for a larger one. :D

Yeah, its massive...wanted a 5 channel and wanted to make sure i had enough power for future upgrades. For me its running 4 x75(4 ohm) + 500 x1 (2ohm)
    Here are the ratings:
    • RMS Bridged at 4 ohm : 2 x 240 watts (1-4 ch)
    • RMS at 1 ohm : 1 x 800 watts (5 ch)
    • RMS at 2 ohms : 4 x 120 watts (1-4 ch) + 1 x 500 watts (5 ch)
    • RMS at 4 ohms : 4 x 75 watts (1-4 ch) + 1 x 300 watts (5 ch)
    • LPF : 50-250 Hz (3-4 ch) / 30-150 Hz (5 ch)
    • HPF : 50-250 Hz (1-4 ch)

It seems like a pretty good deal for the price for sure. I looked at it too. I’ll likely go with two separate amps since I just pulled the trigger on the Pioneer DSP. It’s down to $119 on Amazon. Almost $80 less then the next nearest price. I’m also keeping a fairly subtle system, more for budget sound and less hard hitting bass.

That's a nice little unit, I hear ya on the budget aspect...I went into this project with budget on my mind but I decided to spend more on an amp, the Skar stuff was pretty budget though
I'm a Metal guy and this setup is really good for that, I'm happy!

Just starting out, give me time
So those that have sub setups and kicker speakers or something similar and amp pushing them. Is the sub to much for this size cab? I was thinking of getting duel 10" before I did the speakers and amp but they sound damn good and loud already, I don't know if I really need more if it would just be overkill and won't even hear anything else but my eardrums blowing out. Don't get me wrong I like bass sound, but is it overkill for this size an openess?
