I don't have a Tacoma, but lots of mirrors!
Unfortunately these have been discontinued due to the fact that Gentex ceased production of these mirrors & availability has become quite limited. We may have these available from time to time, so if you need one, please email us.

Great news!! We now have a plug & play solution for owners of 2005-2008 Tacoma's that have the infamous failing display on their truck's overhead console, but instead of replacing the display itself, we have kits that include a nice used Gentex autodim dual display compass temp mirror, plug & play wiring harness, wire cover & new temperature sensor with short jumper harness. This will ALSO work on trucks with the overhead console without display. From what we've seen, even trucks without the factory accessory meter will still have the wiring in place, both for the temp sensor at the front of the truck as well as the connector above the overhead console.

Please note: this will not work on the 2009+ models. Toyota switched from an analog temperature sensor signal for the accessory meter to a digital signal & this particular retrofit kit is not compatible with the 2009+ models.

The wiring harness simply plugs into the factory overhead display / accessory meter connector - unplug the factory harness from the display unit & plug it into the mirror harness and into the mirror & mount it on the windshield, then locate the factory temperature sensor (behind the grille), and replace it with the new one included in the kit.

Scroll down a few replies & check out DukesTaco's nicely detailed installation instructions & you'll see it's a pretty simple swap.

These kits are only available with a brand new Gentex GNTX-455 autodim compass temp mirror (this is the more squared off version of the mirror). Kits with this mirror are $249.

Homelink compass temp mirrors available too, but being that these are no longer being made by Gentex, used is the only option on these. The kit with a nice used GNTX-453 would be $269. Because the accessory meter connector does not have a constant hot wire in place, you'll either need to only use Homelink when the ignition is on, or we can break out the constant hot wire & you can tap into a nearby maplight if you want to use the garage door opener buttons any time. Also - the used Homelink mirrors are only available with Homelink version 3. If you have an opener, this is a non-issue. However, if you have a newer Security + 2.0 opener with yellow antenna & yellow learn button, you may not be able to use the mirror directly with your opener. Being that newer versions of Homelink are not available on this particular mirror, you would have to purchase a repeater in order to use these mirrors with newer opener...they are widely available on eBay and Amazon for around $30 or so.

The new mirrors come with a 3 year warranty. Shipping & insurance is included in the total; 6% sales tax is additional if you are in Michigan or $30 additional shipping to Canada.

If anyone is interested in purchasing a kit for your Tacoma, send me an email directly at info@bobsmirrors.com Please don't PM me here on the forum as I am rarely able to get on here, but email is always on. To purchase one, we can send you a Paypal invoice, which you can pay either with a Paypal account or credit card (Paypal account is not required if using a credit card).

Thank you & have a blessed day!!

Hey all, the compass temp mirror kits for the 05-08's are now available!

Now that we got these going, we're working on some other kits...one is a retrofit kit for the 05-08's with compass temp mirror that also has backup camera display, and another kit for the 09-13's that also has the same compass temp backup camera mirror with a semi-plug & play harness that will replace the failing overhead accessory meter while being able to retain the factory backup camera display in the mirror (or add it to trucks that are pre-wired). Stay tuned for more details on those kits!

I'll be your lab rat for the back up camera Bob. Jk. Great job on the kits. My kit is working like a charm in the Arizona heat.

So my overhead display failed (YET AGAIN). I could pull it and re-solder it (YET AGAIN) but saw this. I already have an aftermarket camera mounted on my swing out tire carrier that displays on my DDIN head unit (Always On). Wheels are turning.... could I mount a new (to me) mirror with temp\compass\camera and wire to an aftermarket camera on the front!?!?!?! Hmmmmmmm

To answer your question...yes, you can. Instead of the display trigger wire being connected to the reverse light wire, you would connect it to some kind of switch so you can manually activate it on demand, or if you want an automatic system, the Brandmotion Curb Alert Park View PRO 5000-CA6 that can automatically turn on the display for you. For more info on this system, go here: http://www.brandmotion.com/sensors/curb-alert/curb-alert-park-view-pro-5000-ca6.html (and if you would happen to want to purchase it, yes, we are an authorized reseller of Brandmotion products).

I'm interested in the backup camera mirror for my 06. What other stuff should I try to buy right now to prepare the mirror. Tailgate handle with backup camera and what wiring? Anything specific that will make this an easy install? Should I email you?

Yes - please email me at rearviewmirrors@csinet.net - I'm still working out all the specifics of the various kits, but should be able to put something together for you here shortly.

    Thanks!

I really need to do this. My BIGGEST pet peeve with my 2014 Tacoma TRDOR is the stupid temperature readout through the receiver via HD radio that doesn't have signal half the time, and shows the temperature somewhere 50 miles away 90 minutes ago. Totally worthless.

We still have the kits available! If you're just wanting a kit with autodim, compass & temperature display, they're $139 for the kit for the 09-15 trucks. If you don't necessarily need compass, we have some mirrors in stock that allow you to select either compass or temperature, and the mirror will stay on that setting even if you cycle the ignition. Contact us at rearviewmirrors@csinet.net if you have any other questions or would like to order one! :)

Hey all! We still have these kits available for the 05-08 trucks! And as long as it's feasible, we'll continue to support the trucks! So many companies drop products because a given vehicle gets too "old"...not us...if we can get the parts to keep allowing our kits to be available, we'll do our best to do so!!

Hey guys- question as I have a 2008 TRD Sport. I do have the overhead console already temp/compass. what i'm wondering is is there something else pre-wired up in the overhead area to like provide power for say a dash cam ? I know the newer model mirrors have some sort of plug in the rear of them that some guys are using for switched power for their dash cams. just wondering if there's something up there for us guys with the older 2nd gens to tap into ? thanks

I don't believe there is; however, we've got the male & female 10 pin connectors in stock & could make up a T harness for you that will give you the ignition-switched power & ground wires - shoot me an email at rearviewmirrors@csinet.net when you have a moment and I'll get back to you over the weekend.
