I’m in need of someone to either a) co-sign my irrational decision or b) to tell me that it’s not necessary.

    here’s the situation:

I am an avid backpacker. Spent years as a wilderness guide. I’ve got an Osprey Argon 85 pack that I’ve used for nearly a decade. It’s on its way back to osprey for some much needed repairs.

I’m considering buying a KUIU pack for my hunting trip in September. We will be backpack hunting for up to 8 days. If all goes well we won’t rerun to base camp until the time limit ends or we all tag out. Is it worth spending 5-600 bucks on a KUIU or should I just use my osprey? The osprey is an OD green so I’m not worried about it sticking out like a sore thumb.

Not sure about the Osprey, but the Kuiu will double as a meat hauler, with the ability to carry some insane loads. Head over to Rokslide. There is literally days worth of reading, covering all aspects of backpack/mountain hunting.

If I were to buy a new pack I'd go Kifaru. Not only are they 100% made in the USA, every single part on it was also made in the USA

Osprey is a full backpacking pack. Not intended to be used for hunting. I’ve carried about 80lbs max in that pack and it held well.

Well, I’m getting closer to getting my bow. I’ve shot five different bows from different manufactures. For those that haven’t shot a new bow in the last ten years, Holy Crap! Slinging arrows over 300fps is a hoot!! I’ve narrowed it down to two bows. The Bowtech Carbon Icon and the Elite Kure. Both of these bows “talked” to me lol. Both shot very well for me as well. I’m leaning a bit towards the carbon though, as it is lighter. I’m going to go to the shop and shoot both again tomorrow and make my final decision. Either way, I’m going to buy the bow naked. Then down the rabbit hole I’ll go trying to equip it with a rest, sight, quiver, etc.

    Thank you.
It truly is a different and exciting experience. I’ve bought numerous guns and this is way different. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been this excited for a gun.

Best way I can compare it is building an AR from scratch.

How big is your Osprey? It is 100% possible to use your pack to haul out meat. Put meat in game bags and put them inside a stuff sack and then inside your pack.

    https://youtu.be/I3c9DwZ0CEA

^this guy in the video here is the President of Kifaru, demonstrates how he puts the meat inside the pack.

For me, I do want have the Kuiu, but I bought it during a sale so it came out a little less so I have a 5200 and a 2200 bags for it. My heaviest meat haul last year with it was about 70 lbs and it worked just fine.

6CB110B9-0821-447C-904B-1B0D7C96A1DC.jpg Well I finally brought her home. 2020 Bowtech Carbon Icon with a 60lb draw. The bow weighs 3.2lbs naked. I’ll be using this bow for hunting. I put on a Trophy Ridge Hotwire sight. I’ll see how it does in the upcoming weeks. A Trophy Ridge 4 banger quiver. It’s pretty lite and seems to get good reviews. Once again we’ll see if it stays. My buddy had a brand new Whisker Biscuit he gave me, so that went on. I’ve hunted with one for ages so I’m super comfortable with it. I’ll try a drop away offer hunting season. A new bow and a new sight is plenty enough to learn. Time to practice, practice and practice. I’ll draw first blood with some hogs before deer season.

That looks great! That should put some hurt on some hogs. Have fun getting up to speed with it.

***EDIT***. I guess it was fair since I just sold it lol.

Do y’all think I’ve priced this fairly for local sale? The market is kinda hard to read right now. Have it at $850.

    Hoyt Hyperforce Kuiu Verde 65lb
Spot Hogg fast Eddie XL double pin
    QAD Ultrarest
    Axion Stabilizer
    Currently set at 30” draw
New Vapor trail strings and cables. I’m throwing in a Scott Pursuit 3 finger release.

Thanks man, I though so too. I had a couple of responses saying it was too much, so I started second guessing lol.
