Weatherstrip Maint

What you guys do to maintain your weatherstripping? I recall reading something (not on the boards) about apply a lite film of some type of oil or grease after cleaning them. It keeps the moisture in them or something.

Anyone recall anything about this?

 

Sounds like you're talking about 303 Aerospace Protectant...well that's what I use.

 

Probably not a bad idea, but it seems like oil would attract dirt and dust which would make it worse.

 

I use silicone spray. Spray it into a paper towel, then apply to the weatherstriping.

 

+1 on 303 Aerospace Protectant. Works great on any rubber/interior moldings. I even do the sidewalls to clean them up. Its not greasy either.

I would agree with 303...I need to get a new bottle. I've also used Back to Black on the really rough spots on my sunroof in the scion.

I use 303. 13 year old Tacoma and the seals are still fresh and supple.

I use 303 on mine. Gummi Fledge is another good option as well.

 

I used 303 on my old ride, and will use it on my new Tacoma. It's not the easiest to get here in Canada but it can be found at Mountain Equipment Co-op stores.

 

303 is a dynamite product. Found out about it here on TW, used it on the truck, and found out recently it's recommended for RV rubber roofs and also gelcoat fiberglass on RV's and boats.

I bought a gallon of 303 for $60 at Camping World, conditioned the rubber roof on the RV, the gelcoat on the RV, LP tank cover, tires, looks brand new. Only 1/2 gallon used.

That $60 is one of the best investments I've ever made. That is one shiny trailer for $30 and three hours of work.

Honest to god, we have used Vaseline to restore and maintain door seals and exterior tim for 20 years. Put it on thick and let it soak in for as long as you can. Then using a disposable towel, wipe the jamb and rubber. It will not only keep them soft, it will keep them working and sealing the door preventing water intrusion and wind noise.

Damn will any of these help with the seals around the doors being squeaky?

 

There was a thread on this somewhere, and it was suggested the squeak is actually coming from inside the door seals, with the 2 interior walls of the seal rubbing against each other.
