So my Laptop (3 years old) memory says its pretty much completely full. I went through last week and deleted a ton of stuff and it free up a chunk of space well now its says its just about full again.SO a few questions do you think I have a virus that just multiplies and takes up space cause I read that those are out there. I think this because all I downloaded since that time was one album for a band so I dont see how that couldve filled it up again. Or do you think its just full. If everyone seems to think its full I am just gonna buy a external hard drive unless you guys know of something better.

You need to go to "My Computer" and right click on "C:" and click properties. It will show you a pie chart of how much room you have on your HARD DRIVE. This is what you can use to determine how much space you have vs how much you have used. You can also use the disk clean up to free up some more space. This is if you are actually talking about your hard drive as you seem to be. If you are actually talking about your system MEMORY aka RAM, then you do indeed have some sort of virus...

well I have checked the Pie chart you are speaking of and it says the C drive is almost completely full. I have defragmented and Cleaned up with multiple programs and none of them help. So its a situation where its wierd that its happening I get a little pop up every 2 minutes saying your running on very low drive space

as far as magically losing drive space, it is very hard to accurately calculate how much is full. when files are "deleted", they still remain on the drive, they are just marked as able to be written over. defragmenting a hard drive usually causes massive amounts of disk space to be taken up as files are copied to be moved. even after the defragment, some space will be temporarily "lost"

but an external is your best option right now. or get a new computer. jesus 3 years old?! didn't know people still owned laptops that ran on kerosene and whale blubber. all the new ones run on this thing called "electricity' :D

Sounds like you just need a bigger hard drive. I try to do a clean windows install on all my machines annually, just to clean out all the crap. Invest in an external HDD, or a bigger HDD for your lappy. Throw all the files you want to keep on the external, do a clean windows install on your lappy, and move the files back.

If your looking for a new HDD, I get all my parts from either Microcenter (local), Newegg.com, or Amazon.com

Microcenter has 1 terabyte desktop HDD's for about $60 right now.

    Good luck!

get an external hard drive and back up all of your files before you do anything. but before you do install windows 7, make sure to run a virus sweep if you have not already.

I would recommend the following strategy:
    A) Open My Computer > navigate to C: > right click windows > properties - this directory should be between 15-25GB Maximum. If it is excessively large, you likely have many memory dumps or other system error logs.
    B) Run "Crap Cleaner" (aka CCleaner); it should free up a few GBs if you haven't freed up that space already.
    C) Open My Computer > navigate to C: > open Users (if Vista/7) or Docs & Settings (if XP) > right click your user folder > it should be relative to how much data you think is stored there (such as if you know you have a hundred movies, expected ~70-100GB or so + a few GBs for other data). If it is substantially larger than anticipated, dig deeper to determine where the extra space is used. If you have a problem with duplicate files (saving them to multiple places or copying files), use a duplicate file finder.

For other questions or to give me status reports, post back here.
