Mine goes in on Friday but I really don't want to do it if it's the old style goo. Isn't the new stuff supposedly not as nasty as the older spray?

I just had mine done.. I’m still going to fluid film soon myself. I hardly noticed anything when I picked it up from the stealership. I never seem to be able to trust them but since this was of no cost to me- I thought what the heck.

There were some small spots of white goop after I picked it up on the undercarriage but that’s really all I could tell. Didn’t look like they did much.

I work at a dealer ship, I snapped a pic the other day of one they were doing. They will also do the seam of the double c part of the frame. It seems like good stuff to me, it’s like really thick fluid film.31F92118-301C-43B7-B375-87D28F02F338.jpg

I'm glad they just changed my frame, it was really bad.

Thanks, does the color change a bit as it dries out or does it stay that white?

They must have changed the way they do things. I had mine done in 2016 at Beck Toyota in Indy, and the entire outside of the frame was coated in a black semi flexible rubbery but greasy goo. The inside of the frame got the whale cum treatment with the thick fluid film.

The whole thing was well done with a durable treatment. It just now started flaking off on parts of the frame below the battery. I had a battery leak like crazy and I used a ton of hot water washing it off. Acid ran down onto the frame.

apparently this is a new product and a new application. They came to our dealership in the fall and installed some new equipment in one of the bays, then spent a day showing the techs how apply the stuff. I know the old black stuff was shit, it just trapped moisture and salt against the frame once it started cracking. I wouldn’t let them touch my truck until I saw what they were doing. I’m getting mine done in a few weeks.

My only worry is if there's surface rust inside the frame already will this stuff make the rust even faster, or will it slow it down? Trying to decide if I want mine done...

What are those 2 tubes that go into the manifold in the picture? One of mine is split open from corrosion where it enters the fitting.

I feel silly asking this, but is this service something all Tacomas qualify for? Or was this a special recall?

I don't like going into a dealership and asking for something that makes me sound like an idiot. I feel like they can "smell stupid" and use that to their advantage.

I think it depends on where you live. I’m in MA and got a letter for my 2015 about a month ago asking me to bring it in so they could inspect it.

It passed and I just got an email saying “the parts” have arrived and I need to call for an appointment to get it sprayed.

I’ve been doing fluid film every fall and it’s pretty clean looking on the outside. I’m kind of glad they’re going to do the inside though

Well, I took it in today, they gave me a 2020 high end AWD Highlander as a loaner until it's done. Absolutely HATE the active steering control. Weaves back and forth badly and jerks the wheel when it thinks you are to close to the lines so it goes back and forth. Not much quieter then the 15 Taco is but feels a lot peppier, especially in sport mode. Not a bad ride but wouldn't take it over a 4 Runner even with all the fancy doo dads.

Pic of my 2015 I just purchased. Still wet and gooey. Not hardened or dried.

They've changed since I had it done a few years ago. Mine is all black and is flaking off. Still gooey in spots.
