With the many of the hard trifolds you do not lose 1/3 of the box, only about 8", all of the panels fold up to the back of the tonneau. This is a shot of the Extang Exceed, but the setup is the same for the other Trifolds.zxkYAlETT4etQkhZsiRjoQ.jpg

Yeah man go for the tri- fold . When I had it on my 13, I loved the fact that I could remove in less than a minute to have full function of my bed. Really easy to remove and reinstall. For the price , mine held up 5 years no issues ! I just sold my 13 last year with tri- fold still in tact 100% . Was a quick fix/ looked good/ functioned good and I think I bought for like 240 bucks on Amazon. Highly recommended... I think company was Tiger / or something along those Lines .

The one draw back of my back flip, not a quick release system. So would not have 100% full function of my bed.

I went the Tyger Roll Up route. Only had it a month, no complaints and for under $200 not out much if I decide to go hard cover down the road.

Yes, the Extang Exceed is also not a quick removable tonneau, I don’t believe any of the flush mount ones are due to the mounting hardware required. It takes about 15 minutes to remove and another 20 minutes to reinstall the Exceed, a real pain.

What's the box and bar you have here? That looks like a good way to keep recovery gear and other stuff from rolling around too much in the bed.

Anyone know what if any covers would be compatible with a bed rack? Specifically I have one of these on the way: https://greenlaneoffroad.com/16-tacoma/tacoma-bed-rack-system.

The box is a Plano box that I purchased at Home Depot, I actually bought three as they were on clearance for $20 each. They work great, almost like it was made for the Taco. The ratchet bar is something I have had for many years and it works great for securing the Plano box. I have seen them around for about $25.

As far as a tonneau that works with a bed rack, I am not sure, I would think that it would need to be something that rests on top of the bed rails and can accommodate the rack arms.

I went with a Truxedo Pro X15. I think for a soft tonneau they’re hard to beat. I cannot stand the “vinyl look” of most soft covers (roll ups and tri folds).

I WAS really considering a BakFlip Mx4 at one time but I think they’re a tad overpriced. Super tough though and they give you near full bed access. Having that quick, easy full beds access was key to me because my taco is a short bed.

All that being said it looks like this “LoMax” deal I’m hearing about in this thread may be way to steer a new tonneau buyer. Looks like a badass cover and that’s a killer price too!

Someone local on Craigslist has tiger tri-fold new for $140. Really wanting a topper but for the price I’m debating giving it a try

Glad you found an appropriate tonneau for your needs! The ability to have that extra space comes in handy! Enjoy!

I have only good things to say about my Truxport Truxedo. Reasonable price, allows full access to the bed (and nearly full access to the OEM bed rails), with almost no water intrusion even in heavy rain (just a few drops in the front corners).

Ordered my Lomax through @GotExhaust and it arrived just a few days later. Can’t rave enough about this cover so far. I am NOT a mechanical person by any means and I cannot stress enough just how simple the installation was. Plus, the ease of complete removal and not having to drill at all is a huge plus. Big rainstorm coming tomorrow so we will see how watertight it is!

    Report from after the storm:

It was a torrential downpour with gusting winds up to 50 knots. Had the cardboard box that the Lomax was shipped in in my truck bed. Popped open the tailgate this morning and it was bone dry in the bed except for a small spot right near the tailgate on the drivers side where a few drops came through. I’ll just find the point of intrusion and add a little more weatherstripping. Pretty incredible how dry it kept the truck bed.

We recv'd the shipment if a very timely manner and the install was quite easy. I should have put in a little more thought installing the d gaskets at the bulkhead since it sits ~1/8 higher than the bedcaps, as I have leakage at the bulkhead corners, can you post a picture of the position you installed the d gasket between the bulkhead and bed caps on both sides? I may have installed the gasket wrong with the downward slant as the directions depict as the front panel gasket which sits atop the bulkhead does not come in contact with the bed caps d gasket, as to why I have leakage.

I can make my adjustments, simple enough but just wanted to see how you installed the gaskets at those points for reference.

The Peregon arrived now I just need a cooler day to install. Opened the boxes and checked it out. It seems well made and designed. Not sure about the seal around the tailgate but I'll know more once it is installed.

My biggest problem is going to be keeping the kid next door from insisting on helping. His dad is completely lost around tools and the kid is pretty mechanically inclined. He insisted on doing one side of the hood struts. Says he was taught to help old folks.
