    The big guys still get called to the tail of the dragon some because the big rig drivers don’t seam to know how to follow signs saying vehicles over 35’ long are prohibited.


    The trucks can go over but are suppose to get approved before and be escorted across.



    for anyone who doesn’t know what I’m talking about. The tail of the dragon is a stretch of US129 that goes across the TN/NC line. 318 curves in 11 miles, narrow 2 lane with a mountain side on one side and a 50’+ drop off the other side. Also some of the curves are 160 degree switch backs with a grade.

    Deals gap is just the name of the motel/ store in NC kinda at the end of what is actually called tail of the dragon. If you ever make it let me know, I have been on it a few times in the taco.

    NC and TN have basically banned big trucks on part of 129. NC actually did it first.


    A few winters ago I saw where a truck got stuck blocked the road all night long. Got over $4k in tow bill/ tickets.:eek:
