2020 TRD Pro, 2400 miles. Clean, no off roading, yet. Not even a dirt road yet. But has gone through one WI winter.

I have a noise coming from the back of the truck like brake pads are worn, that constant scraping noise but very faint. Metal to metal like someone is holding a fine wire against a rotor or driveshaft, subtle, but I can hear it.

I can hear it reflecting off walls and buildings as I drive. It stops making any noise below 5mph. Does not get louder as speed increases either.

It sounds just like something gently rubbing a rotor but of course we have no rotors in the back.

I thought the drums were hung up slightly but they are only warm and still able to be touched after parking it after a 5 mile in-city drive so they can't be catching I don't think. They'd be way hotter if they were dragging.

Nothing stuck in between the drum and plate that I could see. Nothing touching the driveshafts or CV joints.

Is this a common sound and maybe it's just something like a loud fuel pump whine and I am not used to the Tacoma quirks?
If not I'll have the dealer look at it and hope they don't say they can't hear it.

    Thanks!

if you can replicate the sound and it sure reads like you can, why not take it in under warranty? have a tech take a drive with you to where you can replicate the sound for him/her

You aren't comprehending what I'm asking, but thanks anyway.
I'm well aware I can take it to the dealer and hope they can hear it too.

If people here who have long term usage of the Tacoma say "Yes that's a normal noise, it's the .......", then I will know that and not bother taking it in. Same as the loud engine clicking is normal on this engine.

That's why I'm describing the sound, where it's coming from and asking here first...

    lol I do understand.
I was just saying if it's under warranty, Why not take it in to the dealership for them to check it out, metal to metal doesn't sound good to me with only 2400 miles on it?

rolling tire or road noise I could understand, but metal to metal type of sound doesn't sound right at all with a brand new vehicle.
Sorry if I caused you any harm in any way as to your critiq of my response to your comment.

Hope you have a Better day, Taco brother

Don’t think this is a common thing.

Had something similar on an old Subaru of mine and it turned out to be a bad wheel bearing. As good as Toyota’s manufacturing is, sometimes bad parts slip through.

Hi, I'm having very similar issues with my 2019 Tacoma. Same type of faint scratching sounds coming from the back tires/brake area. Did you ever find out what your issue was? If so can you please explain? Scratching my head over here and debating whether or not to take for an expert to look at. Thanks in advance.
