Just drove a 2018 Toyota Tacoma SR - base package. Looking for something to pull a teardrop for an Alaska trip. Wife in the passenger seat says it rides rough. I know , its a truck, but my question is, do you get any improvement in ride or seat quality with the higher trims? Thanks for your expertise. My other Toyota is a 78 Landcruiser. They make a solid vehicle!

Seat quality no, but the suspension is different on all TRD models. Off road will have the softest ride out of them all.

    Test drive each trim level.
    I own a 2016 TRD Sport V-6 4X4.
Ride is pretty smooth for a mid-size truck

TRD offroad suspension is tuned to be soft. TRD sport is tuned to be stiff. All other trims share the same suspension.

So you're saying the SR5 is same stiffness as the sport?

No, I'm saying offroad is soft, sport is stiff, and everything else uses the same base spec toyota suspension.

What do you mean which is what? I clearly said sport is stiffer, and offroad is softer, then all other trims are the same. So the SR, SR5, and limited (i.e. all the other trims) share the same suspension components.

Im asking what "the same suspension components " are for the others. I thought it was pretty clear. You are making specific claims about the off road and sport, but completely vague about "all others share the same base spec ". I'm curious what the base spec is since you know what the other two models ar . Damn.

If OR is soft and sport is stiff, Where does SR5 fall in? I didn't think it was a dumb question.

Your first question was asking if the SR5 rode the same as the sport which lead me to think you were confused about what the difference in ride quality was between trims. You never specifically asked about what the specific components are until just now. The sport uses Hitachi dampers (painted blue), the offroad uses Bilstein dampers (painted yellow), and the pro has the fancy Fox dampers. If you look under your SR5 you will find unbranded black painted dampers (presumably made by an outside company contracted with toyota, however which company I don't know). The SR, SR5, and limited all use the same suspension components found on your truck.

So SR5 would fall somewhere in between.

The base model’s suspension will likely be somewhere in the middle since it’s not Sport or Off Road oriented. Still going to be stiff compared to whatever CUV most peeps are used to.

Y’all know you can Google your questions if someone here doesn’t decide to take the time to do it for you. Homie gave you information. You’re welcome. He doesn’t owe you the answers to follow up questions. If he answers that’s nice of him, and if he doesn’t that’s fine too, because he doesn’t owe you an explanation or answer to your questions haha.
