I do, best thing ever

Especially if your hydraulics won’t stay in the same spot, mine don’t. Set it and forget it with the chains.

 

Question time. I have a Massey 1523. My 4wd has stopped working, finally bugged me enough today to start the project. Started at driveshaft, when 4wd lever is engaged the driveshaft doesn’t move, and when it’s not engaged shaft spins freely, seems like at least generally the transfer case is doing its job. Onto the front axle. Ripped into the passenger side hub.


When spinning the front axle, the gear visible at the bottom of the hub will mostly spin along, but apply even finger pressure and I can stop the gear while axle continues to move. Same thing on drivers side.

All of that makes me think my issue is in my axle between the driveshaft and hubs. My question to everyone here, is where do I look next for my likely culprit?


I figured I’d come in here and ask before I kept tearing stuff apart without knowing where to look(like I’ve already done with my hub).

Gotcha. Reason I ask is I have a buddy who’s a tractor mechanic but he lives near Charlotte. Sorry! I don’t know anything about MF’s or 4wd tractors.

 

How near Charlotte? I’m about 45 minutes north of Charlotte.

 

He lives close to Harrisburg.

Nice looking JD140! I just sold mine with a tiller. Also had a newer style 317 deck for it.

 

Some nice tractors here, I recently got a Ls Xr4140 have a great dealer right near me, and helped my father in-law worked there also. We live on 14 and help take care of another 20 of family property so it’s gonna be getting some work done been clearing up some shooting lanes and getting the area ready for next season. Saves my back a ton already

New seed tender the seed dealer is letting me use for soybean planting this year. It beats opening all those bags. Each unit on there equals 40 bags. There are 2 units on there now. I will use a little over 12 units before I’m done.

Got my curl cylinder and setting it up on the bucket. Little 115v Miller is laying some beads down tonight.
This is a junction where I have my outer 1/2" plate on top of 3/16".

The 3/16 touches channel which ties the sides to the middle bucket reinforcement. I had to jump an 1/8" area to tie it all together. Big honking weave weld. Reminds me of the ol trailer rebuild days lol.

I did quite a bit of measuring and manually curling before deciding on a cylinder length. Think I found the sweet spot of rollback at ground level and dump at full height. I'm happy with it on both ends. Dead beat and shut down. Still need to plumb the hoses, make a front bracket to pin the front cylinder thru, cut off the excess arm length, and weld greasable bushings in at pivot points.

 

Got the hoses routed and hooked. The curl cylinder has tons more power than the other one. Other one had a dead spot in it that caused "bucket flop" due to the necessary angle of the cylinder needed to dump and curl using the trip dump bucket arms. The other setup wouldn't curl a bucket full of dirt or lift the tractor. This one easily lifts the tractor just with the curl. Just have a temp pin setup on the front right now. I can also dump on the ground at ~6" of bucket lift height now.

Top of trailer is 29".

Thanks man. I was very worried that the new longer cylinder would be extremely slow due to my 1.5 GPM pump but it's OK. The alternatives were a smaller diameter cylinder(less lifting capacity) or shorter one(less curl and dump)

I'm OK with the speed and the lower dump height ability will save me time when dumping on the ground.
