So I’m in a bit of dilemma right now. So I ordered a @CBI Offroad Fab HC rear bumper back on March 3rd and right now they are telling me it’s going to be done by June 4th... Well, my trip to the Rubicon Trail is that exact day. I won’t go unless I have a HC rear bumper on. I don’t have any welding skills but I was thinking of having a local shop mock up a super simple HC bumper... I will cut the rear bed so it will fit for the CBI bumper but for the mean time just put a 4” square tubing going around the whole rear. What do you guys think?

It might be worth reaching out to them, sharing your trip details and seeing if they can’t bump ya up in time for the trip. They’re good dudes and it never hurts to ask, good luck!

You could just remove the stock rear bumper and tow hitch plus do the trimming of the rear fender, all before the cbi bumper comes. 99% it will give you the clearance you need to not scrape and nothing will hit the fender or tail gate with all the stock bull shit out of the way. Don’t ask a shop to weld up a temp bumper . When you come back from your trip install the CBI with a few steps out of the way . This is what I did when I installed my CBI HC bumper. There will be a lot of clearance will all the trimming and removal (more than with the HC installed).

Nope, wasn’t me. You have a link?

I was wondering if I did all the prep if I would still have enough clearance. I might just go this route.

I tried and contacted CBI but they said they can’t help me because I ordered their bumper through a third party and have to communicate with that vendor to make anything happen. So I contacted @TacomaBeast and so far... Nothing much but i have to wait till June 4th. I’m not going to give up, I will be calling CBI again and if needed I will drive all the way to Idaho to have them install it also. So, I don’t have to wait for the shipping.

Someone built one in that "true crawlin" thread, it was like square tubing.

I wish I could but I wasn’t going alone. I was going with a group. I would just have to skip it, then wait and see the next we will go.

    On the vendor*

He scheduled a trip requiring armor before even having it, now he’s wanting the vendor to expedite his order because he didn’t plan things.

Probably not gonna get much sympathy from Tacomabeast. They don’t have a problem with scraping rocks.

I found out we were going on the trip end of February. So then I pulled the trigger on the bumper a couple days after. CBI said it will be 8-12 weeks but I was hoping it wouldn’t be the full 12 weeks. But I’m not trying to make them expedite my order. I just want to know the exact date. The June 4th is still just estimate and it could be sooner. But I am trying to time it where if it is done sooner I will go up there on a weekend and have it installed. If not, then ship it.

    I’ll check it out.

I get it. I’m just saying.. a lot of armor companies say 12 weeks and it’s 17 weeks. Some are even longer than that. I had to basically schedule a drive to Nevada once to pick up an in stock item that a certain vendor still couldn’t make time to ship after 4 months.

Best case with armor companies is that they actually meet their delivery window, but not many do. CBI isn’t without their problems. People plan trips before armor or campers/RTTs alllllll the time, and there’s a lot of threads where that bites them square in the ass.

I'd say you have the tiniest hope of getting it in exactly 12 weeks. The fact that you didn't order direct means you are not their customer to please, you are tacomabeasts customer. I have ordered armor from 5 different Fab shops and only one delivered ahead of schedule, and that was because I hit the lottery of a cancellation of my exact build by another customer. All the rest we're we're weeks beyond the estimate.

I'd say your best bet for armor by June 4 is checking out Craigslist, the NorCal classifieds, Vilmont.

You should not expect to have the bumper ready by your trip, sorry. Missed promise by dates are all too common for this work.

I been doing this too. I ordered a CBI transfer case skid from @truckbrigade and it came within weeks. This was after I placed an order with my bumper. I just didn’t know this was normal for Toyota fab shops. Metal cloak in Sacramento will make a bumper for a Jeep in weeks.
