In the market for a new angle grinder and looking for some recommendations.

    Back Story:

I had a buddy over the other night to offer assistance and tools to remove a snow plow system from a Jeep he had purchased from a guy who wanted the system back. Got the main, important bracket off with my Milwaukee torque gun (love this thing) and had to cut the rest of it off with my 7+ year old Harbor Freight angle grinder. Long story short, it started giving me issues when trying to setup the handle and guard so I could use it safely (basically, the grinder will only run with the handle mounted on the left side of the tool ONLY..weird, I know).

I have been looking to upgrade the angle grinder for a while and I am looking at Dewalt and Milwaukee cordless as I have a good collection of Dewalt tools already and the Milwaukee torque gun as I mentioned. Not really looking at anything else since I would have to purchase a new battery and charge system.

My question is (1) Does anyone prefer one over the other (I know..here we go..) and (2) Has anyone had both and have one they prefer over the other? I love my Dewalt stuff and I love my Milwaukee gun; I am just torn.

Here are the ones I am looking at of each:

Thanks in advance for your help!

Ive used the dewalt cordless you mentioned a time or two with no real complaints and I personally own a Milwaulkee but corded.

Honestly, if you have both battery brands already, you know both are sturdy tools. Pick a color and be a dick about it.

I will mention the Milwaulkee you linked isn't their newer "Fuel" line which seems to be built a little better and perform a little longer.

Only think I'd say to consider is the actuation method. I love the thumb switch kind, but hate the paddle or trigger (dewalt) kind.

    Edit: Heres the fuel version:

You are correct. Here is the newer model I didn't link on purpose (being thrifty-ish right now..)

If you own a Tacoma, one of these Super Deluxe, Extra-Long extensions makes changing the plugs so much easier..

Now that you mention it, you might need a step ladder with that one:rofl:

I think the one I use is the same size just to the left of that one :D

As many as I can fabricate
I know the battery thing is hot now but I'd still use a plugin. The reason I say this is for the last few weeks I've drilled at least 400 holes (building a camper with lots of rivets) and every hour or so I have to charge/swap the battery. Now this may be a unusual circumstance but grinding and cutting is normally a long process. I bought a Sears corded grinder in 2005 and it's still humpin. I've built 12 race cars with cages, maybe 15 BBQ grills and a ass of other stuff, and it's still killin it. (sounds horrible now tho)...lol. I even cut the cord off while using it inside a completely gutted Nova, and did not die of electrocution. It's amazing.

It took me years to just accept a cordless drill

Cordless grinder I will most likely never go that route.

Then I have so many 4 1/2" and 4" grinders between air and Electric

HAHAHHAHA Careful you'll cut your cord off!! :bananadance:

I only have AIR grinders and cut off tools.

And I am Mr. Cordless. I have cordless in just about everything else made. Well like recip saws, I have two corded and two cordless and frankly mostly use the compact right angle cordless. So handy.

Anyway, I vote air but damn a Metabo corded might be calling my name..............stop me...............:ballchain:

Once you go cordless you never want to go back. I have been using a 18V grinder for years. It's been thru hundreds of cut off disks.

I recently picked up a 20V one for the hell of it.They have just as much torque as a corded one without the damn cord getting in your way.

They are great for cutting something out in the yard or going to a pick-n-pull. I also just bought a 20V cordless orbital sander.

It is so much better than a corded one and it will run for an hour on even the small 2A battery. I was just using it today.

Thanks! I was wondering how that 20V sander merits.

Well worth it. I have a corded Dewalt one as well and you always have to deal with flopping the cord around or hanging it over your shoulder.

Also in the photo is a right angle impact ready attachment that Amazon has down to $20. It will work with any drill and has great reviews.

    Bonus hint:
I used one of the garage floor mats to to protect the side already epoxied in the photo above and not only does it hold the part from moving as much, not one part got scratched on the good surface.

I don't have that many tools, but when I bought my truck in November I rearranged the garage so I could fit my truck in with my wife's car. We have a tight garage so I had to put my work benches on the side along with shelving and opted for 8 feet of peg board for a lot of my tools.

What’s a word for tighter than tight?

Good job maxing out the space! Time to go vertical
