Looks interesting as an alternative, they have a pretty good deal on it on ExpertVoice.
Wouldn’t be a bad idea to keep a base camp.

Only con I can really see is it would crush your mpg maybe. Thoughts?

+1 who would buy this? There are so many incredible ground tent options for less than this, let alone buying this and a RTT.

Agree. I think if the base could kind of quad fold and then you can pack it up and use as a platform for a tent, that would be cool. Not for 800+ though. Maybe 200-300

It’s kind of a misleading name. It’s a tent hitch, not a hitch tent. There is no tent included in the product, even though tents are shown in most of the pictures. I guess they didn’t want to pay the lawyer to write “Tent not included” in large print on their web pages. As an idea, it’s not bad. After all, lots of people think it’s nuts to put a tent on your roof, or to tow it around behind you. This is just another alternative. I’ve had an RTT and a FlipPac it for now, rolling up my $200 ground tent and throwing it behind the seat works pretty well.

agreed. I doubt I’ll get a RTT.. for a fraction of what a rack and tent would cost, I could have a brand new very good all around gear pack that could Handle any situation and hikeable.

BUT.. I guess the RTT is more so glamorous for the wife and kid.

For what it’s worth my wife didn’t like the RTT. She’d rather sleep on the ground with a tent she can set up by herself not reaching 6’ overhead.

I know it’s lame and not hardcore or whatever. But the RTT makes it a shit load easier to camp with the kids. We keep all the sleeping gear folded up in the tent along with some PJs. We can show up at camp late and have the kids in the tent asleep in about 10 minutes.

Would have to mount one hell of a tent to it for it not to get destroyed hanging off the back of my truck like that. Water crossings and bog holes are going to be a serious problem.

Seems like a lot to spend for what is essentially a ground tent with a cot inside.

Yes, protect your exposed RTT, so you can... put your bike on your roof instead? I'd rather put the bike on a hitch rack instead.

The look on that hunter's face just says "this is the dumbest thing I've ever done".
