    Hi All!

I’ve been lurking on here for a couple years now and thought it’s about time to join. Since I’ve had this truck for about 8 years, thought I’d make a relatively detailed first post.

This is my 99 SR5 2.7 4x4 Xtra Cab with an auto trans & manual locking hubs. It currently has around 166k miles and runs like a top! Want to briefly share how I got it.

My uncle bought this truck in 2009 with 110k miles (idk if from original owner) for a commuter and weekend work truck. Sadly, he passed away in 2010 and a year later, I proudly decided to take the truck when I got my license over some other newer Craigslist first car. I’ve done my best to maintain it mechanically and, in return, it has treated me very well over the years. That's why I absolutely love this truck and want to keep it running/in the family for as long as I can.

Every thing is just about stock except for the rims which were on the truck when I got it - I’m not sure what brand/model they are. I haven't done anything cosmetically either and I’m not really into off-roading hence the stock suspension & all season tires. Also has a Truxedo bed cover.

    Regular Maintenance:
    - Oil/filter every 3k
    - Tire rotation and chassis lube every other oil change
    - Air filter about every 10k or when it starts to look dirty
    - Drive about 5 miles with the hubs locked once every couple months to keep the front end lubed
    Other Recent Maintenance:
    - New rotors, pads, and shoes at 145K
    - Both diffs and trans case fluid and new plugs at 150K
    - Transmission fluid (Not flushed) and filter screen also at 150K
    - New tires at 158K. Toyo Open Country H/T - 31x10.5R15 (Has been great tire!)
    - New Battery at 162K

Mechanical things I had to replace/fix over the years:
    - Starter: solenoid got stuck in the ON position - truck would still run even with the key in OFF and removed… Later learned if that happens to hit the starter with a hammer to unstick the solenoid as a temporary fix
    - Radiator: had a small crack. Replaced with new coolant
    - Rear Axel Seal: Yes, the breather was clogged. Now aware of this and always keep it clean (Might do a breather mod but I don’t off-road so may not be necessary)
    - Replaced the 2 exhaust donut gaskets for the down pipe cause they leaked a little exhaust
    - Replaced the O-ring where the oil filter mounts to the block - it got old, cracked, and dripped some oil

    Things I’m planning looking forward:
    - Haven’t done anything with the suspension so struts, shocks, and leaf springs may need to be addressed in the next couple years
    - Thinking of replacing LBJs with OEM ones. They seem fine, but I’ve read some of the horror stories...
    - Throttle is beginning to stick a bit - plan to clean throttle body, IAC valve, and MAF sensor soon
    - OEM cast iron exhaust manifold hasn’t cracked but something I might replace with the 02-04 2.4/2.7 steel OEM mini-header if I can get one for a good price or find one at a junk yard
    - Fluid Film undercoat in the Fall

    The Frame:
Overall solid, no holes and surface rust here and there. I’m not sure where this truck began it’s life but the CO winters can be tough with stuff they put on these roads. I was unaware of the frames on 1st gens when I got the truck, but TW has informed me lots about this subject and would like to under coat in the fall now that I'm driving more since graduating college (Sorry for no pics - might make a post about it soon)

TW has been an excellent resource for learning more about my truck. I tried to include a lot of background info so I can offer my experience the best I can of owning a 1st gen, as a fist car, in Colorado for 8 years.

Sorry for the lengthy first post

    Thank you all!
