So my grill base completely rotted out and instead of buying a new grill I decided to rebuild a base for it and see home much longer I could get out of it. Came out pretty damn good and it should definitely last longer than that crappy Chinese sheet metal that was there before.

 

Got the cutter in. So far I’m digging it! I didn’t try 240v yet, need to get a new outlet for my extension cord. The gun is comfortable and the machine seems well built. I cut 1/8, 3/16 and 1/4”. While it’ll cut 1/4” I wouldn’t want to regularly do that on 120v. Takes awhile and then my 20a breaker trips. you can see where I got interrupted in this cut.

Did you use a straight edge?

I would think that thick of iron would be less often than other option you work with?

 

I did. I used a piece of bar stock as a guide. And it is less frequent. They tote that you can cut 1/4” on 120v which is true, just not ideal.

 

I picked up a plasma cutter about a year and a half ago, I used it for about 20 minutes to play with it and that’s about it. My cuts didn’t look anywhere near as good as yours. Mine had dross all over the bottom edge and my cuts were pretty jagged. Yours looks good. I see the green machine, I have an everlast as well. What model is yours?

 

I used a slag hammer to knock it off, came off pretty easily. It’s from harbor freight, their titanium 45 cutter. What’s cool too is it has a drag guide tip thing on it which helps make it dummy proof.

 

Aaahh.. I have used pliers to grab it and take the dross off, it worked well enough. I need to figure out how to correctly set my air pressure and other machine settings, then get good at my cutting speed, etc... I have a metal project next week so I’ll have some time to get back into the swing of metal stuff.

I completely forgot that harbor freight has plasma cutters now. When I first saw them, I swore they were made by everlast for harbor freight because they look identical.

 

Got this thing hooked to 240v, holy shit I can fly through this 3/16” with no problem at 40A. this thing is the bees knees

 

Damn. Now I have to get one.

 

Can I get you post a pic of the drag tip and the consumables? I'd like to compare it to my Miller.

Mine is nothing like those.

I can get mine thru Amazon and they do last a while. I was just wondering if I ever got in a jam if I could pop into HF and grab some.

 

They do carry them in store. Next time I’m there I’m going to grab some to have extras on hand.

Yes it is.

Since I made the decision that no work I do would be away from my shop, I sold my cutting torch assembly.

I think it's been a dozen years now. I can't remember I time that I wished I never sold them.
