I bought my Drifter used from @aaen and he had a Decked. It definitely looked a bit tight but not impossible. Maybe search his posts for some pictures and info.

Thanks! Found one on his 'goodbye' post. He also had a 3rd Gen DCLB, same setup. I'm messaging him now to ask if he'd do it again. Appreciate it!

Having seen it in person and actually crawling in and out I changed my mind about getting a decked system with my Drifter. I found it it to be more of a hassle and awkward than i was willing to accept. Losing that much space right at the rear door entry was a no go.
If it was set back about a foot or so it would have been manageable but still not ideal. I decided to build storage with a open center area for standing and it worked out great. Much better for my needs.35637155-8A66-4C85-A727-862880609D4A.jpg

Also a decked system weighs 200-230 pounds according to their site.

Blake, about how much does your’s weigh?

Part of the appeal of the Decked system is it being waterproof and dustproof. If you have a Drifter, or similar weatherproof camper, why get it. They’re pricy and so many more practical options.

Never actually weighed it, but roughly adding up the weights if materials, far less than half of the decked.
Using all aluminum and thin birch wood makes a big difference.

That’s what I was thinking just looking at it....way way lighter and probably more functional in a lot of ways.

I had a 3/4” plywood platform drawer system that was about 200 pounds.
The next one was aluminum and 3/8” plywood at 55 pound.

For the 3rd Gen, DCLB it is set back about a foot and I think this will make all the difference (hopefully). I already have the Decked in place so hoping it will work well, but if not I'll just remove and sell it :fingerscrossed:

I got it to hold me over for camping this Spring / Summer. Bought the truck specifically for the Drifter build and sold my van, so don't have a RTT or anything. Now that I see I won't have the Drifter until late Summer at the earliest (perhaps longer because of COVID) I had to get a weatherproof plan that would work in the interim.

Hopefully the above doesn't come across as negative, not upset with VO at all. Just coming up with a plan that will work until I have my dream setup :bananadance:

Are you based in Oregon? I'm in PDX and ordered my Drifter without seeing one in person. Would love to check yours out if you're ever near Portland. Can bring beer

Unfortunately, I live in Eastern Washington, just across the border. I think that @xplorn lives in Salem, and offered to show his Drifter in the past.

With the Covid lockdown, I don’t know when I will get to PDX. If you ever head out to Eastern WA; would be happy to do a show and tell. I just got my protoype bed build done and solar is now working! This sucker is getting near GVWR, even with the light Drifter.

Oh nice! Was thinking about camping at steelhead falls this weekend actually. Not sure we're ready to drive that far with this whole COVID thing, but if so I'll hit you up for sure!

Great to know, Salem is super close! Was actually camping out that way last weekend so I'm sure I'll be hitting you up at some point. Thanks!

Went scouting for new sleeping spots today. This’ll do just fine next weekend!
