I have 2.5 Kings with about 50K miles on them. I am hearing a clicking / clunking sound coming from the passenger side. The noise goes away when I wash the truck, but comes back when it dries. I greased the upper control arm and dry lubed the top spherical but that didn't work. Any ideas on what this could be?

Can you give more of description of when this happens? My lower control arm bushings we’re toast before that mileage. It would clunk when going from forwards to reverse or from reverse to forwards. From outside the truck you could see the movement. Might be helpful if you had someone else move the truck a bit while you look closely at what’s happening.
Ultimately clunks are going to be tracked down to loose or worn out components and should easily be tracked down.

    Lots of stuff
I had an intermittent "clunk" from the passenger side. It was the LCA ball joint. With 50k on your Kings, how may are on the vehicle? That could point you to other causes. But, like previously stated 50k is getting up there and may be rebuild time.

I have a video of the noise but couldn't find a way to upload it. Its kinda like a clicking noise only when the shock goes up and down. To trouble shoot, I took a spray bottle and wet each joint at a time. Once i sprayed the coil over the sound went away.

50K on the coils and truck. As stated in my previous comment - the only time i could get this clicking sound to go away was when i got the coil over went. All the other joints seem to be fine. I could be wrong tho

It's really just NOT rebuild time on those Kings.

He has an issue originating from elsewhere and the title of this thread is insinuating 100% that the coilovers are the origination of the source of the noise.

okay.. so what do you think it could be? When i get the shock wet and everything else is try the sound goes away. Thats why i assumed it was the shock.

If you are getting the shock wet you are also getting bushings and joints wet. You have an issue elsewhere, but it is not your coilovers.

I used a little spray bottle. Sprayed the top and bottle bushing and the noise was still there. Sprayed the coil over and the sound went away. So i assumed it was the coil over

Where on the coilovers did you spray?

You may just have a worn spherical bearing which you can purchase for a few bucks plus shipping if that's the case and a full rebuild would be redundant work.

I thought you were just spraying stuff with a water hose. Lol.

haha yeah no water hose. Small spray bottle to try and pin point the issue. If i remember correctly, when i sprayed towards the bottom by the input shaft the noise went away. (Not sure if thats the correct term for it).

Well hell. Yeah that's sort of vague-ish..

If you have access to a paint program draw an arrow in close to proximity you can to show me exactly where it is making noise.

I put a black circle around the area i spayed water on that made the sound go away. I'd probably want to try and do the same method again just to make sure.

Yeah but are you spraying the top or the bottom of that silver shaft?

Not sure I understand all the calls for a rebuild at 50k. I got 150k on my fronts before a rebuild. Hard miles too.

I would’ve thought you were talking spherical bearing too, but the only thing a little lube could do where you circled is lube the shaft seal. Maybe that did the trick. Has it come back after spraying it there?

Marketing for maintenance has a powerful effect on the unwitting masses.

My coilovers have been good for the last 70K hard miles as well. I beat the crap out of them.

Good question.. kinda the whole silver shaft.. I'd have to try and spray the bottom first then the top to really see.

My bet is on lower spherical bearings.

Mine make it one wheeling season.
