881’s with 5100’s gave me roughly 2” on my DC 4wd V6, which is exactly what I wanted. I was afraid the 882’s would bind too much in the front with stock UCA’s. I ended up using a drivers side 1/4” top plate spacer and going up one notch on the 5100 for the drivers side to get it completely leveled out.

So here's what happened! The thing went up higher than I and my shop anticipated. We were freaking out a bit when his after measurement was at 4+" all round!!!:rofl:But then they checked all control arm angles, clearances, brake lines etc. etc. and said
"everything looks fine!" I was out of town and didn't know what to think except, :annoyed:

I got to the shop the next day and saw this:

    IMG_0540.jpg IMG_0542.jpg IMG_0541.jpg

This is with the ARB and a warn M8000 hanging off the front of my V6 4x4 Xtra Cab (cab and rear are loaded with sh!t in this pic)
Tho the rear looks lower here it is actually damn level (this is a sloped driveway?)

To recap: 881's on Bottom clip setting on the 5100's Toytec (Dayton) AAl in rear on my original spring pack have given me more lift than I thought I wanted, but given it will settle a touch and I can drive safely without placing parts into harm's way I am actually happy happy happy with it. The ride is great and soooo much improved from the shot-as-hell struts and springs I suffered before.

So, like another poster said, it is hard to anticipate lift results with lift springs...

    Whew!

you just can't zero in on the lift height because of cab types and engine types and even additional weight.
are you sure the perch is set at the 0 setting?
at best i believe these newer OME coils settle to about .25 or so.

Looks great. But, in my opinion, visually that is no where near 4+ inches and if it was you would definitely at the very least needed a diff drop kit and extended brake lines. Your truck looks almost identical to what I got from my 881s and Bilsteins... mine ended up about 1.75".

Thanks for the insights. I guess we just freaked out based on a sagged suspension first measurement vs. a properly established 2nd measurement after the upgrade. Next up: fix the mis-installed M8000 :smack:

Just picked up some 881's for my 04 DC. Planning to use Bilstein 5100 24-249928's. Any leads on the best place to get these? So far 4wheel parts seems to have the best price @ $94. Kind of hoping for a Memorial Day sale in the near future.

    Thank you.

    Best place? Cheapest place?

For best place I’d suggest checking price & availability @
    1. Wheeler’s Offroad
    2. Toytec Lifts
    3. Headstrong Offroad
    4. Downsouth Motorsports
    5. Lowrange
Since you have the part number, for cheapest, I’d check Amazon, and do a Google search on Bilstein 5100 24-249928. Amazon might be cheapest, might not. I’ve seen some “shock” stores via Google. I think there is a “Bilstein” or “Bilstein Lifts” vendor or website. I seem to recall a “shock warehouse” that turned up via Google search.

Might also check All-Pro, now part of Trail Gear.

Of my numbered list, if you tell them you found them on Tacoma World, there might be a TW discount to be had. Or ask in their TW vendor section if there are any TW coupons or discounts or specials running.

    Good luck!

Just wanted to chime in as I went through all this a few times. OME 880 are for super light duty tacos. Like the 2.4L single cab stock bumper. The 881 are regular duty ie. for 3.4L access cabs stock bumper. The 882 were a heavy duty coil specifically meant for double cabs with winch bumpers. 400lbs extra rated. The 883 were designed for 1st Tacoma but more medium heavy duty use ie. access cab with winch bumper. 200lbs extra rates.

Thought I'd revisit an old thread seeings how I sold my 13 Tacoma I had for 6 years and just picked up a stock 04 Tacoma.

I bought new tires for it and I went an inch larger so I need to lift it a little which I wanted to do anyways.
To my surprise the suspension was changed out to Bilstein 5100s all the way around with stock coils springs. So I thought I could pull them off and raise the bottom clip up one notch. Well I got them out after battling cross threaded bolts and rust and I was not about to put those back on my truck.

So staying with 5100s and all the rage with ome coil springs the only thing I needed to find out was which coil to go with.

I called 4wheelparts and was told 880 would be the best way to go. Mind you I have a dcsb 4x4 and a cap. V6. The guy said an 881 would be way to stiff as it's for a truck with a bumper and wench. He said they are both the same length and it's not the coil that gives you any lift, it's the shock. Went ahead and ordered the 880 but felt wrong.

Two days later after people saying the 881 will give more lift I kept thinking how is that possible if it's the same length. So I called wheelers and he said something I don't know why I didn't ask before.
"What is the spring rate between the 880 and the 881?" He said they are both 500# coil rates and the 881 is longer hence the higher lift. It all clicked.
So I ordered another set at 881.

My thought is this. People buy the 880 and set the 5100 to the second clip for more lift putting the coil under more preload.
Why not the 881 set at 0? I mean they are both 500# coil rates after all. So they should both act the same as far as weight. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm trying to come away with a decent lift and a decent ride. So I guess I'll find out sooner than later.

As for the nitro chargers, they may work better with the coils but, I can always change that later. For now I guess we will see.
A pic of the 5100 I pulled off my truck.

I have been running 5100's all around, 881's with a 1" leveler and OME 5 leaf rear springs for about 6 months. Not too stiff but a bit creaky. Stock bumpers but i do have a front hitch+winch. Overall i think i ended up with a 2"+ lift. Never measured it accurately but it is higher. 2004 DC 4x4 V6 AT. I would say i am happy.

    Oh got it

Definitely go 881 with 4x4 auto dcsb.
That’s heavier of all the options. Especially if you’re going Dakar leaf pack - 880 won’t be enough. Remember they settle a bit over time. The 4Wheel part store clerks ive talked to have no clue what’s they’re doing. Can get some small amount of work done their but if you run into issues like driveline vibrations it’s best to take it to a real suspension and driveline shop.

It sounds like you've learned a bit of an expensive lesson. 4wheelparts isn't really a trustworthy place to get accurate info, considering they told you the it's the shock that gives lift (that's patently ridiculous) Glad you called wheelers, they actually care and are knowledgeable about suspension and lifts. I have much the same setup as you do. '04 dbl cab, 4x4, topper, steel replacement rear bumper with plans for steel front bumper (of my own design and build) with winch, I went with 5100's front and rear, OME dakar rear spring pack (minus the aal) with 881's in front. it pretty much sets level unless i load the rear up with camping gear. i will install the aal sometime this year to eliminate the so-cal look when it's loaded up. that will give it a bit of forward rake unloaded but...meh. hope you can return or sell the 880's. happy wheelin brother!

Yeah I'm on my down to 4wheel parts today to return the 880. I even called the same guy the next day to question him some more and told him I'd like the 881 but he basically made it up for me that I was getting the 880. Which is why I got off the phone and ordered them through the site. Luckily they are only 40 min away.

Yea they made some mistakes but sorta made up for it. Told them first notch on 5100 they went first notch from the top lol.. surprised they let it leave the shop like that. Had some driveline vib after lifting front/rear they tried to fix and felt bad for all the rework so installed all steering rack bushings for free just paid for parts. They added small carrier bearing drop and said it was good- it helped some but could still feel it.

Took it to reputable suspension shop they got everything dialed in rides like butter now.. ended up with 1/8” carrie bearing drop and small degree shims for the rear.
880 second notch and AAL I rear got exactly 2” front/rear spot on.

It rides good in very happy with how it turned out. If I were to do it again I’d see if I could get away with 881 on first notch. Mind you this is xtra cab v6 pre runner so no front dif and less weight

One about lifting and changing driveline angles: https://youtu.be/Idk3BVDVHq4
