I tried to keep the truck in 4th yesterday climbing up a Mountain pass around 60-65mph. Non-Gearlock Tune using regular S-Mode. Kept down shifting to 3rd. Drove me crazy having the RPMs flying up while your trying to focus on the road.

I cannot believe how many are constantly asking about the different modes and maps. PEOPLE read the Dam page and or go right to ovtune blog and read 2.0 final info. Idk how many times it has to be said of the different maps available and what each mode is for 2.0 final

I use S mode 90% of the time just because I like it shift when I want too. Now a special 93 octane S+ECT = Insane Mode only getting 13/10 mpg would be great!! Didn’t we consider this a few years ago!!

    I was on
    04B04+2.0+Base+91+OL+31+-+33T
Yes it was the new one, I haven't updated since 1.05 till now.
All Learn values were cleared (trans and engine)

had 200+ miles on the tune, with every kind of driving (highway, big grades, 2 lane mountain roads, 4x4 sand wash's, and low range crawling)
    Ambient temps were 96F
Fresh 91 octane in the tank.

It stumbled with both AC on and Off.
Stumbled 2 out of every 3 HOT starts.

Seemed to stumble more if I left the truck off for a 10-15min before starting again.

Sorry if Im behind, Im just catching up on reading pages thismorning

I find myself needing to lock out higher gears way more often than wanting to lock it into one gear.

Would it be possible to do like the older tunes and offer a gear lock version and a regular S mode?

Just to throw my 2-cents in..
Flashed the new 04B04+2.0+Base+91+OL+31+-+33T yesterday, reset LVs, 10 minute idle then let it rest for 15-20 minutes before I went to do some errands.
First start had the stumble, but not as bad as the previous version of the "new" tune.
The next 5 hot starts had no stumble at all. Only 50 miles in so far, but the initial impressions are quite good.

This is the correct answer. In that situation though, gear lock is going to accomplish the same thing. So I am not sure why somebody would want regular S mode, but be unsatisfied with a gear lock instead.

Here is my reasoning (not whining, but actual thought out reasoning):

If S mode shifts all crazy, I don't like that (just like how I don't like the way D shifts in stock either), but I really appreciate that S mode limits the higher gears while continuing to shift automatically through the gears that I limit it to. The elevation change in CO is crazy. Just for me to go to the closest chain grocery store, I travel from 6,300' to 7,500' to 5,200'. And that's not saying anything about traveling through the state's the high passes (11,000'). By limiting the higher gears in S mode, the truck maintains more shifting consistency travelling both up and down the steep grades. But since I bought an automatic and not a manual, I want it to continue shifting automatically when necessary.

That being said, gearlock still works for those steep grades, but without the feel of a clutch and stick, it's hard to gauge appropriate times to down/upshift. So for me, even when the truck is in gearlock on those steep grades, it still frequently reaches the point where it downshifts automatically, but then races to get back to the "gearlocked" higher gear. This creates a constant shift between two or three gears because it's confused. Yeah, I know I could gearlock it into an even lower gear at this point, but again, I bought an automatic, not a manual.

    Hope that makes sense.

Is VfTuner for Tacoma available yet? I want to blow up my engine. Also, here's my MPG.

I like gear lock as is on the 2.0F test tunes. If you’re counting...

I now have the 100 miles on my tune 2.0 91 31-33 stock gears. Still have a hitch in my giddy-up (start stumble). First several starts were fine, but I had one last night and one again this morning after the truck had sat for a bit and was cool. Seem to be less than previous test tune, but it’s also warmer here now if that matters. Otherwise, tune drives great, really happy with it as is and if the starting issue gets smoothed out, even better.

I really like gear lock on the mountain passes here in UT. I can spin it up to 80+ mph at the base of the hill (I-80) in 4th, lock it in and it will pull 70-75 mph to the top in 4th (barring other shitboxes in left lane causing me to lose speed).

Any of you guys having this issue yesterday, figure it out?

I'm going to try one last time after work. Don't really want to waste Matt's time with a Zendesk ticket but might have to

I’d think it’s too late for offering that, the mans gotta move on. Good news is that if he changed it to gear locking, that leads me to believe that you can change it to whatever you want in vf. Everyone wins.

Good call. It's not like gearlocking is ruining my life or anything, but if it's something that can be changed in vF tuner, then the $79 upgrade will have been more than worth it to me.

Huh, interesting that we have very different experiences with gearlocking going up mountains (I-70 in CO). If I try to leave it in 4th, it constantly shifts to 3rd for a couple of seconds to get back up to speed, then quickly to 4th for 20 seconds where it it doesn't have enough power to maintain speed... so back to 3rd we go! But if I leave it in 3rd, then it's just screaming up the hill the whole way at 75mph.

I like it the way it is.

basic S mode is lock (quick activation so I can lock it out for single grades etc).

When Im doing lots of passes like you , and want it to shift for me, S+ect = tow mode. So not only does the motor make better power (Atkinson cycle thingy), but it also shifts for me when Im lazy.

Gotcha. Unfortunately, I'm not one of the lucky ones who's had a version of 2.0f available to me with the tow mode. Only 19800 beta... which I don't think has this... I think. I still have to do S+ECT for gearlock.

2.0F is just around the corner. you'll love it. I used to avoid driving my wifes Tacoma anytime I had to run through the mountains, as it drove me absolutely nuts with all the shifting etc.

2.0F I actually will drive it now. and will actually leave it in drive now, with this latest version of 2.0F yesterday, it seems to pick a gear and stay there on hills... and the correct gear to boot. Im very happy with 2.0F, I actually enjoy driving the truck now. And Ive been around since 1.3...

(I daily drive a 500hp / 1000lbft at the tires Duramax, so anything that has to shift is annoying)

I agree. Gearlock is the same as stock S mode, except no BS downshifts all the time.
