I agree haha. Had they not responded the way they did I probably would have stopped buying from them. Hopefully they learned from it and don’t do it again, otherwise that just proves the disconnection from the people that buys their stuff. Which would be a shame because they definitely try to connect with their customers with stuff like the gearhead program, even though I’ve used it like once haha

Yea its definitely an interesting story. The jury is still out, for me anyways, on gauging their response. Suing non-profit businesses was a little over the top for my taste. Their first public apology was pathetic. Beyond the ethics of all this, I question the legality of copyrighting words like backcountry, trails, off-road, and the list goes on. The only companies they sued were tiny ones not capable of paying the legal fees to defend themselves....classic bullying. Larger companies with backcountry in their title were avoided because they had the lawyers to defend themselves.

To date, they have dropped one lawsuit from what I could tell and past companies are bound by confidentiality agreements so nothing to evaluate other than a need to have information private for reasons I don't understand.

To be fair I don't think backcountry.com employees are bad people. This is just a few executives who paid a legal team to be douches for them.

They apologized because of the public shaming they got, not because they were sorry. I don't drink Bell's anymore for what they tried to do to my favorite microbrewery.

So... REI did appear to have the POC Tactical Spin in Stock in white with 20% off + my divided so I went ahead and purchased it there. I have a 57.4 cm noggin and went with the M/L. I hope my goofy shaped head will fit in the thing. Update to come once it arrives.

I have mad respect for riders that do that. Those bank turns are no joke. But those socks...someone needs to consult the UCI rulebook on sock height (because of course roadies would have such a rule on the books)

High Star? I'm with you. Swamped compared to my pre-COVID usual being the only car in the lot.

I don't have a list of lawsuits, but I do know that they've reached out to quite a few small companies and provided an olive branch. There are quite a few stories out there, so I won't link them all but here's one. They also fired the law firm that was behind the legal action. I can't imagine that they're offering support to these companies and also continuing with legal action, but it's possible.

Definitely not trying to argue for or against them. I don't have any ties to them, except a few friends who've worked in the warehouse here in SLC.

Yep. We were shocked to see the crowds. Holy crap, Radke is a riot though!!! I forgot how rowdy that trail is. On our drive home, the wife and I were in agreement that a Chase, Short Fuse, Radke loop is probably the best bang for your buck in the whole SLC area.
