    Ran the Coxey Truck Trail yesterday from Apple Valley to Big Bear with some friends, open and dusty, lots of traffic. Really nice to finally get out though, first time with my new truck on dirt since its a month old. Wasn't really challenging for the 2WD, only upgrade was some 265/75/16 KO2s. Had an asshole of a Raptor come by as we pulled off for him to pass and spray us with dirt and rocks, luckily no damage. Finished off with a growler from Big Bear Brewery! And picked up a little project boat while I was up there too!

    Anyone know if the Holcomb Valley road is similar to this one?

    Off roaming and a project boat. Sounds like you had a great day.

    Yea holcomb valley road is very similar to Coxey. They're both basically just fire roads. but don't get confused with Holcomb Creek. That's a rock crawling trail.

    That sounds like a lot of fun, I wasn't ready for it to be over when we hit Fawnskin. What's that, 5 hours from start of Coxey to Pioneer town?

    The 4 way intersection where 3N14 intersects with 3N16 at the Big Pine Flats campground, if you turn left you go down 3N16/Holcomb Valley which is a pretty long ride all the way to the far end of Big Bear Lake with a few cool stops along the way (old mining shacks and stuff). If you go right, you go down Green Valley Rd which is a fun easy trail. Going straight toward Fawnskin is about 7 miles and is over pretty quick.

    There's a huge network of fire roads that intersect Holcomb Valley, all of them are easy trails as long as it's dry/no snow. Any of the harder trails are clearly marked as such

    Anyone familiar with the shooting sites in either Big Pine Flats or Arrastre? Have these been shut down during all of this?

    sounds like a decent estimate. Really depends on how often we stop and pee haha

    @Norsemanvike and others
    8am this Saturday May 23: The start point for 3N14 Coxey Rd is at the intersection of Bowen Ranch Rd and Coxey Truck Trail, if you Google Maps that intersection it'll take you right there.

    I'm still waiting on confirmation/plans for this weekend, we might be visiting family, but if we don't end up doing that I'm in for the run.

    Anyone know what time the Maple springs truck tail closes the gate? Are you allowed to run up there for sunset and come down in the dark or does it close at dark?

    I’ve done a few night runs up there and haven’t had an issue with the gate closing. It was usually around midnight when I would be back at the gate.

    It's open at night, the rangers usually only close it when there's signs of rain. In which case it'll be closed for a couple days.
    Do you know if it's open? I hadn't called but I wonder if it all got closed down with the virus...
