I love rattlecans. Back when I had my TJ, I was a bit tighter on cash and didn't want to go buy a pair of blacked out wheels just to find out that I didn't like the look afterwards, so I plastidipped 'em. That plastidip held up really well over 4 years, only tearing when I got new tires put on and had them rebalanced. I've been sitting on the idea of plastidipping my OR wheels black like that, but the results here are really impressive. Definitely a strong contender.

has anyone done this on a black truck yet? wondering what the black would look like on black. does it look goofy not being the same finish?

that thing looks amazing. I'm doing this to my rims next weekend, (labor day) as well as putting in my TRD Pro grill on my Black Off Road.

    What lift is that? 2"/1"?

I sanded the front with the fine 3M pad. Took forever!! Ended up using a 120 grit sanding block on the rear wheels which saved hours. We'll see how it holds up.

    This is very simple.

Use the method he shows up to the index cards but don't scuff your wheels and don't use "paint" use plastidip on a very clean and dry wheel and it will last forever.

Most botched wheel painting jobs are due to lack of prep.

Yeah I may have to try plasti-dip with the glossifier or w/e they have. I dipped my chrome emblems and grille surround but don't know if I'd like the same matte finish on the wheels. Maybe i'll try it on one wheel and see how it ends up.

I have been running the FJC Black TRDs, since I bought my truck. But I just dropped off my OEM RIMS to the Powder coaters!!

    Can't wait!

    Gorgeous pic.

How much to get wheels powder coated... and how long do they typically last?

I have quotes ranging from 85-125 per wheel. I went with 85.00. I am not sure about lasting but I also painted a set on my own on my 2001 LandCruiser and that did not last as long with wheeling trips and all. So I am hopeful powder coating is going to do the trick! I also ordered the TRD wheel caps on Ebay for 18.00 so I don't have to rattle can mine.

I'm at just over 2 years on mine and they still look good. There are some very, very minor chips (lots of gravel roads) but they are holding up great. Also, you can have your caps powder coated as well.
