Just curious what other 2nd gen Tacoma owners are getting for gas mileage. How many miles can you go on a full tank?

    I have a 4 door long bed V6 4.0L with 285/75/16 tires

I’m getting 10 city and 12 highway, getting about 240 miles each full tank

Damn. That seems kinda low, but you are running 285's.

I'm on 285's and getting around 16 mpg/ 300 miles per tank in my RC 4 banger.

    Ouch. I have a dclb 4.0L with 175k running 285's and I generally get 16.5 or so.
Have you changed your sparks or other tune-up stuff recently?

My stock 2015 DCLB with 36k miles is getting great gas mileage, at least according to my UltraGauge.

22 highway/17 city before getting rid of the hood scoop
25 highway/18 city after swapping in a normal hood and monitoring my driving habits
Peak of 27 mpg on a longer (~20 mile) trip with light traffic and super conservative driving

I’m not saying these are numbers you should expect. They seem a little too good to be true, so I’m wondering if there’s some sort of calibration error with my UG. That said, I can get 450 miles out of a tank if I run it until empty, which I never do.

Long bed/short bed, not enough difference to matter. But my 07 DC 4X4 with E rated 265/75/16's will give me 18-19 mpg hwy. I've done 22 under ideal conditions a couple of times. I rarely do any true city driving, but running around town and for rural daily driving I'm 16ish.

12 mpg highway sounds kinda off. I am running 33s as well and I have to be getting at least 16-17

I have a 2007 4x4 dual cab with 6" lift and 34" tires. I get better mpg than you are. Probably around 13-15 mpg

Did you account for your larger tires? Your ODO mileage is likely ~10% higher...

I’m mechanically inclined so I do all my own maintenance. Just changed plugs about 3k miles ago. Checked the MAF sensor, air filter, etc.

I took it to 2 different mechanics and none of them can find anything.

Took it to my buddies house last weekend, he has a $2k dollar SnapOn scanner, it was reading cylinder 6 misfire but I don’t have a check engine light ?

I also checked each coil by doing the “ticking test” and all 6 of them seem to be working.

This is by far the strangest thing I’ve seen and I’m super curious what the culprit is, it’s been driving me crazy lol

I’m thinking of trying the dealer next, but I bet that’ll be a pretty penny.

Move that #6 coil to a different cyl and see if the code follows

That cylinder is prone to small headgasket leaks too

    I have information :gossip:

    I clock
    22 mpg highway
    18 mpg city

However that is with old dry-rotting questionably legal tread depth e-rated 45 lbs highway tires. 245/75-R16
I am currently researching new lighter tires.
    Probably Cooper AT3 4S in 265/75-R16. (41 lbs)

    I'm also 2WD

I also saw a 1-2 mpg increase after I put my cap on. I had not expected much of a difference. That's only over one full tank though so time will tell if it's a fluke.

nada....maybe a license plate one day & BA bumpers
with stock tires & rims, I got 21 mpg on a recent long drive
(roughly 265 miles on 12.5 gallons)
I drove from the kfalls pilot (oregon) to the dunnigan pilot (california) as a reference

I’m consistently around 19-20 mpg highway. That’s pretty much stock w an ARE MX canopy.

I’m running the cooper at3 4s’ , no complaints so far!
