Tire wear question

Was that on the front passenger side?
LT 265/75/16?
Experienced any weird handling or steering quirks?

My biggest complaint I ever had with BOTH of my Jeeps was the reoccurring death wobble issues. My JK was so bad at one point, it was literally terrifying when it went off. It was wasn't even drivable anymore. It was always something with the front-end on those things. Bad tires, tires out of balance, tires wearing unevenly, bad ball joints, bad tie-rod, bad drag link, bad alignment, bad sway bar/disconnects, etc, etc, etc... A total nightmare. You'd fix it, then 20k miles later... SURPRISE.. back again!

A week ago, I was waiting outside of a store to pick up an order and I heard really nasty tire squeals and shaking. I had just enough time to swing my head and see an old F250 / F350 death wobbling down the road. The driver pulled off immediately to stop it, then continued on. I watched other cars going down the road to maybe see what could have set it off. There was the slightest bit of patchwork done on the road.

It was the first time that I saw a death wobble on a car in real life. I've felt one coming on with my motorcycles, but those were nothing compared to the Jeep videos that I have seen.

I'd be all over a hydra steering mod if I had something with pitman arm steering.

 

Correct. All it takes is that one little imperfection or small bump/knot in the road to set it off. If the death wobble is in its early stages, the vehicle will typically shake it off and return to normal. If you are already in advanced cases of it, the entire vehicle will shake tremendously and will NOT stop until you slow down to a damn near complete stop. It's legit dangerous and can easily cause a serious accident. I will always like Jeeps, but that was my biggest gripe with them. They make fun toys to putt around town in as a second vehicle or what not, but I wouldn't ever want one again as my primary or only driver. I'm done with that.

 

When was your last alignment? Either something is off or just worn wherever that tire used to live.

 

It was between a TJ / JK or the Taco for me as a DD. My wife and I have always wanted a Jeep, but never pulled the trigger. The wife and kids were hoping that I'd settle on a Jeep, but they're happy enough with the Taco.

Not matter what, they think it is a huge improvement over the sidecar bike that they suffered with for four years.

 

Those are cupped bad you need to rotate them to clean them up

 

Oh geez. Tacoma >>> Wrangler for a daily driver and it's not even close. I have over 15 years of experience in that one. You undoubtedly made the right decision there. Anyways OP, hope we didn't de-rail your thread too much. Hope you get it figured out my friend.

I wish I was smart enough to grab a Taco 15yrs ago. I'd still have it.

 

Finally got to it this weekend. Was going through chemo couldn’t have rotated those during it. Paper weights
