2009 4.0 Auto to manual swap.

Small update, Clutch disk is being sent because the manufacturer somehow forgot it in the kit I bought. HydroBearing shows will be here tomorrow and my 2009 ECM should be here this week. I had to order my last few parts from Toyota and it’ll be a few days till they show up. The bolts to mate the Transfercase to the trans, my mounting bracket for my clutch resi and a small clutch line I’m going to use to connect the HydroBearing braided line to the clutch master. Should be ready for an install either this week late or next. Also started wiring up the pins for the clutch start switch.

 

Clutchmasters HydroBearing has arrived and the ECM has arrived today from @JustDSM. Got an ETA from Toyota today, my final parts should be here on Friday. Install should get underway next week.

 

Final parts from Toyota arrived today.

The Mount for the clutch resi, the release cylinder line (I’m going to use to connect the HydroBearing line to the clutch master), and the bolts to connect my trans to the Transfercase.

Clutch is still MIA and thats the final puzzle piece to this shit show.

 

I’m curious, what are you gonna have into this swap, ballpark?

Not necessarily something I’d consider doing to my 2009 but I’m definitely intrigued at what it would cost.

 

I’d say I have about 12-1300 at this point.

 

Hmm, not nearly as bad as I would have thought. Very intriguing and I’ll definitely be following the rest of the project!

 

Are you doing an oem throw out bearing? I know a few companies make a fix for the throw out bearing squeak, some sort of sleeve or something.

 

Nope, I’m skipping that mess. I got a Clutchmasters HydroBearing kit.

 

It all depends on where you get parts. I’m fortunate enough I pretty much got the trans and Transfercase for nothing. As well as the pedal assembly’s

 

Took some time and mounted up the clutch fluid resi and connected the rubber hose to the clutch pedal.

 

This thing was fun. (Not really) my drilling was a bit off and you can tell by the pictures.

MT E-Brake assembly is in and mounted.

It did for the most part. I have a few kinks to work out but I did get it from the shop back to the house.

 

So, the swap is mostly done and I have driven the truck with the auto ECU. Usually there is lag when you shift. Well, if you shift casually. About 1,2,3 seconds total process. Truck runs great but has a check engine. (Auto ECU still in truck) truck would not start with the clutch depress switch. My wiring may be off. So I jumped the starter with it in neutral and it fired

 

The 4wd Auto and 4wd MT crossmember are the same.
The bolts for the transmission bellhousings are the same (Auto / MT)
The Transfercase Mounting bolts to the trans are the same (Auto / MT)
The Starter is the same.
The front driveshaft is the same.

 

Is the rear driveshaft the same also?

 

I don’t think so, I went the route and sourced a MT driveshaft. I was told it’s a 1” difference. So possibly a spacer might work.

 

So the front driveshaft works just cause the travel in the slip yoke is enough?

 

I believe so yes.
