That's nice to know, it might have been the change from boosted to non boosted and back again, too many changes for it, after 200k boosted.

 

Anything you can do to mitigate the added heat that the supercharger creates is probably the best thing. Since these superchargers don't have built in intercoolers (like the 2nd gen Tacoma superchargers have), we're subjected to heat soak which kills performance and if too extreme can cause damage.

Best way to cool the blower temps is by using methanol injection, really it's the only way. Make sure your grill isn't blocked, cooling system is working optimally, etc.

 

I don’t think so, but if your head gasket was weak with a problem boosted would help it on its way

 

Yeah that makes sense, probably pushed it over the top.

 

Wish I could do methanol, smog and I still owe my father for part of the truck and until I have the truck in my name, I've been told no methanol or 7th so larger injectors and fuel pump are somewhere in the future after this.

Meth injection with just water is a pretty normal thing if you're just after cooling.

 

Some states don’t allow methonal, probably Cal.

I’m serious, you can spray water by itself.

For cooling on hot days and changing the air mixture to a denser mixture.

Before the methonal kit I would have huge swings in power from a 100 degree dry air,

But on a cool foggy or rainy day I would have fantastic power huge difference.

Hot air is thin, cold damp air is heavy.


Water injection would drop the supercharger temps by 100 degrees

You would have heavier cooler dense air.

You would use a much larger nozzle maybe a #6 compared to a 1 or 2.

Now my power is pretty much the same at 100 degrees as at 60 degrees

 

How are you watching your supercharger temps?

 

You can shoot it with a lazer heat gun.

I can put my hand on my supercharger anytime and it’s never to hot to pull it back.

Before the methonal the supercharger was like a heat sink

Just out of curiosity it would be nice to have a sensor in the supercharger so I could see exactly how much my water/meth spray is cooling it. It's obviously working though because my pulls are way more consistent than without it.

 

Oh I didn't realize you can run 100% water, at that point why not do methanol too though. Also cali smog but hate it so if you do it right they might not even notice. But yeah cali laws suck.

 

Depending on the truck and motor it might or might not need the methonal, the added fuel part.

Not all supercharged Tacoma need the added fuel, some do, some don’t. Mine doesn’t unless I use
a 2” , 2.1” pulley.

If I run a stock pulley or a 2.2 pulley I don’t need the added methonal fuel, the stock system does just fine and

If I used methonal with the stock pulley or 2.2 pulley I would run rich.

But I could run just the water if I wanted too with the larger pulleys.

 

Might run this by but somehow I don't think he's going to be much happier with it.

 

Figured this would be the place to post this since a lot of you have done this with the supercharger.
Anyways, currently needing a new crank pulley. I don’t care for the “added performance” of the LCE lightweight pulley As I don’t believe it really does that much but more so that it’s only $190 (and made by LCE) vs $600 oem is what my local Toyota quoted also found for $400 on Toyota oem direct but still pretty damn expensive.

That being said my question is:
I’ve heard a rumor on here that adding a lighter crank pulley can in turn cause excessive wear on internals as not having the vibration dampening of a heavier pulley. This sound like a plausible idea but also sounds kinda ridiculous so figured I would ask if there’s any actual proof to this or if it’s just a skeptical idea
I think either way I will be buying the LCE as I don’t really have another option and it’s quality.
