I'd prefer it as an option as it originally was, not a mandatory feature.

In my humble opinion, I think that the small number of people who really wanted gear lock were very vocal about wanting it.

Most people, like myself, don't much care either way, and so we are quiet.

Those who like using S-Mode as Toyota designed it didn't realize until right now that standard S-Mode would be lost with the newest iteration of Gear Lock, and so they are now speaking up.

It's all fine by me................................ Frank

I’m sure there are a few legitimate reasons to keep S-mode without gearlock, but I think it is a poor way of avoiding 6th gear all together.

For what it’s worth, I think the new 2.0 on 04B04 is fantastic. I’ve been dragging my feet on a re-gear until 2.0 was finalized, but finally broke down and bought a set of 5.29s. It unfair for the group to expect you to fix everything.

Also, I don't think it was a situation where people were super upset and wanting to complain. They were just responding to a question when asked.

I prefer gear lock when you slide the shifter over to "S". For spirited driving around town I use ETC for the aggressive shifting.

Your brain playing tricks on you. Might even be some of the startup issues. Sometimes we think something is there, or different.... but it's really not

Please stop listening to them! Someone comes back from being off the thread for a while and all of a sudden we're down another rabbit hole!

S mode will start in 5th if your speed/rpm is high enough. I think. :)

I can definitely agree on this. I've been to Colorado and man. I traveled from Canada Saskatchewan. I never felt so dam slow in my life . I thought something was wrong with my truck. I was doing 1st gear hill climbs on the roads it was crazy

There is a video floating around out there (I’m trying to find it) that talks about gearing and how the folks at nitro came to be. The owner who is a huge Toyota fan (even owned a Toyota boat) talks about how terrible the auto gears really are. Even without bigger tires. apparently the only Tacoma that is geared properly is the manual. I don’t have an auto but from my research, re gearing is is hands down one of the best things you can do. Especially if you’re not stock. I’ve been convinced that the only way I’m going up in tire size is if I’m going to re gear at the same time.

That's how I feel, 5.29 gears are getting installed on Thursday. I was quoted $1800ish for parts and labor.

Here is the video from Nitro that I think you were talking about.

Some darn good info. I have an appointment in Cashmere next week to have my 5.29's installed by these guys and cant wait! I think OVTune + Nitro (or any re-gearing) is a good combo.

I thought so, but I think it was more of a symptom of the immediate LV reset. It sounds different at idle now after 60 miles

Relax peoples! No one asked to get rid of gearlock. Just requested to add another file for non-gearlock just like on 1.05 base.

Idle is one thing. This tune definitely skips on startup. No questions about it. Feels like I need to pump the carb to get it to fire.

It’s weird some experience it more than others. In 60 miles and at least 10 startups I’ve only had it once
