It's been sitting in the box for the last few months, just waiting on me to install, and today was the day. Installation itself was easy but routing the wires cleanly took some time, probably spent more time than I should have but very happy with the outcome.

Might still try to angle it up a little more but I want to see the ground, not what's in front of me.

 

That looks really clean. Solid work with the mount you fabbed.

 

Where'd u get the piece that mounts in the grill?

 

Thanks mate! I noticed during the install some things that could definitely get changed for the better, but for now, it suits the purpose well. Definitely nice to be able to see lots obstacles when parking, and it'll help give some aid when on trails.

 

Custom fabbed them, I'm not a huge fan about drilling holes, kinda why it's taken me this long to actually install the camera.

 

And u ended up using just the RCA huh? Didn't use the small power and ground wires?

 

Just the RCA and the trigger wire (connected to + 12v out on CS unit) coming from it, the large bundle of red/black wires are rolled up and tucked under the upper radiator shroud trim.

 

10-4, I ran one of those RCA's a while back, I think there's a ground issue because the signal doesn't come in, but I can jump it out and it works fine. Bummer, I don't wanna run it again haha.

 

I did a write up of the process I went through to add this mod to an SR truck that doesn't have the 8-pin connector on the back of the radio in my "build" thread (link in sig). If I can identify the part number for the female end of the 8-pin connector, I will do a full write-up of how to make a t-harness so that factory wiring does not have to be modified.



Edit: I did the write-up anyway because I discovered a few ways to solve the problem. This is a serious WIP because I do not have the connector identified yet. However, you can simply cut into your CS harness and follow the install regardless. Solution

 

So I ordered a 2020 Tacoma pro grille and it has a cut out already for the camera on top will this camera fit there?

 

Can anyone confirm if this kit works on 2012 models? I have a TRD Sport with the JBL audio/entune.

 

Shucks, that looks way to simple... I’m thinking Buying a new grill would make life easier...

Anyone know or make a mount that can be placed into one of the slots in the grill like a raptor light? I'd prefer not to drill a hole.

Yeah I know there 2020 grills have the hole already. But I don't really want to buy a new grill just to mount the camera.

 

I can but they are more expensive, over twice as much so not really worth it, instead we will be releasing an independent mounting bracket for the camera to fit on both the TRD Grilles and the TRD Pro grilles without drilling.

We're working on it.

Probably in about 2 weeks.

 

I will use my preorder credit for that! at least as part payment, I will order other stuff too.
