Has anyone tried changing the leather shift boot with accordion shift boot?

Anyone needing or wanting an ADM kit, I have only 18 kits left for the foreseeable future and maybe longer. I am heading to Europe in July for a 1 year flying contract. All kits will be shipped immediately.

Let’s get the rest of these out the door.

Just joined the club, been 10+ yrs since my last manual car. Took me 3 months to find and then another 2 months quarantined in PA. 2017 TRD OR, 6spd Manual.

Ended up having to ship it across country to CO.

I find that shifting early seems to smooth things out.

When I'm in the mountains, I feel like I have way more control with my manual transmission than when I've driven automatics. Great to see so many other manual-transmission supporters out there!

I do not believe this has been posted...
See link to video on a very factual overview of the Manual Vs Automatic debate (as it relates to OFF-ROAD driving.) I would tend to agree with this assessment.

    Enjoy!

What I got from this video is that automated trannies are easier and take less skill. Just like daily driving and racing.

Morning everyone. Hopefully getting closer to regearing. Happy about that. Can't wait to take a bigger setup on the trails. Pretty much have maxed out the 265/75r16s the last 5 years or so. It's time!

Has anyone experienced or noticed a very slight drivetrain vibe in third gear with the manual trans? It is only in lower RPM's and around 30-35 mph and I assume it is normal but just wanted to ask the question. The vibe is very minor and would be hard to detect for a person that doesn't drive the truck regularly. There are numerous drivetrain vibe threads, but I could not locate anything specific to the 3rd gen manual trans and 3rd gear. There were some threads with the same speed range of 30-35 but didn't mention a manual trans. Truck suspension and drivetrain are completely stock. Never abused and only off-road it has seen was a couple of dirt roads.

Yes. Downshift to 2nd and it goes away. You’re pretty low in the power band at those speeds in 3rd gear. Takes some getting use to. That was one thing I didn’t like about the truck in stock form, it seemed to be really picky about gearing in a specific speed range.

That definitely sounds like what I am dealing with since the vibe disapates as the rpms increase. Appreciate it!

the slight vibe on mine seems to dissipate right after i get off the 2.1k rpm, was told its the throwout bearing wearing out at 150k but idk!!
or it could be something else lol

if it wasn't for all these MT fluids and other gearbox fluids costing so freakin much these days

local jiffy lube wants ~$450 to change those fluids, the lube techs are making bank at a 45 minute estimated completion time
that is MORE than the small little Toyota dealer shop i checked into recently in Iowa

With an MT you could most likey just do it yourself and save a lot of money. The MT, transfer case, and diffs are very easy to change the gear oil. One of the many reasons I bought an MT .

Thanks for the input on the vibe. Hopefully it isn't my throwout bearing since I am only at 13k lol.

i have not fully priced the gear oil needed (approx 3 gallons for everything) but its going to be close to $200 'rough estimate' for non-bulk, maybe $150
local diy lift rental @ $40/hour and could take maybe 3 hours :notsure: underneath it with the clock ticking 'trying hard not to do injury to myself any more stumbling around', so its not a whole heck of much in savings i am calculating with the small Toyota shop
its all in the 'overpriced' gear lube, i am not sure exactly how to cut costs there!

Is your truck real low? If not, just crawl under and change the oils without a lift. This is what I do when changing my engine and MT oil. Going to do my diffs the same way this week. I use amsoil and still save quite a bit of money doing it myself.
