Nothing new there. In the 60's and 70's you could get a line number for promotion. If they didn't get to your number during the cycle you competed again against everyone. It did insure that the best got promoted, and the rest timed out.

I grew up with it. My dad got a line number for E7in 1977 and wasn’t allowed to sew on until 1979 because of a massive post-Vietnam budget cut and promotion freeze. Then Regan got elected and he lost his mind with the pay raise. Then Brezhnev died and he was deployed to Alaska or Egypt all the time because the Russkies were feeling froggy.

I swear, it’s the same shit over, and over, and over, and over...

    Opposite here.

Wouldn't have put in my letter, but PCSing is part of what you're required to do, and I couldn't do that to my wife and kids. Not when they're in good situations, so well, I miss it, and the job was great, buuuut... Hey, bigger and better things.

That’s why I’m hoping to stay put with this last move. Wife has to start over and has had to wait a year to contribute to her retirement account with each job and this was #3 in 7 years for her. That coupled with seniority is frustrating for her. Got less than 5 to go and I’m at 20.

was a recruiter, heard that many times but it is waiverable after being clean for a certain period. If they were a straight up dick to us I passed their info to the other branches haha

alot of things are "disqualifying" according to MEPS. MEPS has a standard designed to meet every branch. from there the individual services have their own standards. that covid thing will be DQ-ing for now but i imagine once things calm down and they realize that everyone will have had had it at some point, they'll incorporate procedures to waive it.

ex: we had a kid that was dq'ed by every branch because of a mild skin condition that showed (not eczema, some weird med term I've never heard of) during his MEPS exam. he went to his doctor and dermatologist and got a note and prescription for a body lotion to help it. this lotion is easily purchased, doesn't cost the military a whole lot of money, has a long shelf life, and doesn't need any special storage process other than room temperature. something like that we sent up for a waiver and it was approved after about a week.

For now, quite true - saw the same blurb and read the AP article.

Reading some of the research on this is that there are term-unknown effects on the heart muscle itself. More research is being done and data collected, but the fear is that the heart muscle damage would make someone physically unfit for the rigors of combat.

Like many other things, I believe that this will be adjusted over time as we learn more about the long-term cardiovascular effects of this fucker.
