I don’t know man. This is a tall ask. You want something that will sort out arm amputation as well as fight off bears...AND be a multi tool?
Like another said. 10mm for a bear. But then you’re gonna need a prybar for that rock.

dude you need a bag of shit. There is no “one tool to rule them all”

but here. This is your do all kit.CDABDF73-D318-4DC5-967F-72795C51C3BC.jpg

I dont really see a multi tool as a go-to survival tool, that being said I do like the quality of my gerber multitool.

A machete or hatchet are better for "survival" imo
I have a schrade hatchet with a ferro rod in the handle so that's probably your best bet

    Sigh.
for the past 40 years I always carry a Swiss Army knife with blade, awl, phillips, flat, tweezers and scissors. My blade is always razor sharp. That will take care of 95% of your survival needs.
I also carry a machete with a serrated back when out in the woods. Again, razor sharp. This takes care of about 4% of your survival needs.
The other 1% cannot be planned for, which means you have to use your brain.

Oh, and I always have a 10mm socket in my pocket.

I think a knife would be at the top of my list. I prefer a good 4-5" fixed blade knife. Nothing fancy, simple carbon steel with a full tang.

Fixed blade knife if you can otherwise a really sharp folder. I’m biased towards Emerson Knives. They can be beat to hell and still hold an edge. They’re also chisel edge ground so you only need to sharpen one side. Really handy when your arm is stuck under a damn boulder!! But yeah, a satellite/GPS phone would be great too. Although when help comes, they’ll probably still cut your damn arm off. They’re not bringing out a crane to lift the boulder.

In that guys case? I don’t know. A sat phone needs line of sight, and if I recall correctly he didn’t have much of any.

Wasn’t he in a crevice? It’s possible he could’ve had line of site with a satellite. Who knows but those are the tools I would bring. Thought that was the question no?

Yeah he was in a creVASSE. But the ability of a sat phone connecting in such a creVASSE is slim. I’ll take slim any day. But my point is that it’s not a magic cure all. It comes with its limitations. Not a lot of limitations. Like one limitation. Being in a stone creVASSE LOL.

If I was specifically in a 127 hours scenario I’d probably love to have a tourniquet hydraulic shears cocaine and water.

A GOOD knife, and a source of fire. If you can make fire with two sticks then great, otherwise carry a waterproof fire source.

Remember this when you're planning the next move, you can survive:

    Minutes without oxygen
    Hours without shelter
    Days without water
    Weeks without food

No need to be a wise guy. I was answering the OP’s question. I guess you’re a guy that can never be wrong and I feel bad for you man. No one knows if it would work or not?! Shall we all take a little field trip to the exact location and find out so you can feel better about yourself? Jesus Christ. Go out and get some air. The OP asked what survival tool we’d take. I mentioned mine. Move on.

Which is exactly what he used to survive. That and guts beyond the scope of most of us.

I carry a Leatherman Signal when camping because it has a little of everything. Honestly use the cutters more than I thought I would. My daily carry knife is a CRKT M1604S. It is a bit big, but it locks open so that is nice.

All the newer 3rd gen guys just don't seem to get it. So quick to defend a strangers opinion that they agree with. They cant understand it for what it is as comical sarcasm and different opinions. Hopefully they will be ok after the incredible conflict suffered here

I do carry a multi tool (Leatherman) and always a working knife. Multitool blades and Swiss Armys don't last with heavy duty use but are great little slicers. Most recently I've been carrying this beefy folding knife as I don't like fixed blades hanging off me. Spyderco is local to me and I discovered them in about 1995 when the company donated rescue knives to my father's entire fire station. Been carrying one ever since. They make great tools and are great people.

Sometimes sarcasm is hard to convey over the internet. My bad. The only conflicts I have in my life right now is not being able to work.
