    There's nothing wrong with overkill.

That will be a fun little Jeep when you are done. I'm familiar with slow progress though. It took me a couple months to get around to the normal maintenance on my bike. I could have been getting in some jollies with the COVID stuff. At least I finally got it wrapped up and am riding.

Or maybe...just maybe, the company that makes the cheapest shit out there hired some random Chinese foundry with zero quality control.

    NHTSA doesn't fuck around.

How nice of them and generous to give us a 20% off coupon along with the recall notice email. The same coupon that is available pretty much anytime anywhere.

I just used these stands to change out my Tacoma suspension. Glad I wasn't killed.

No, they shouldn't. Seems like the pawl doesn't go far enough back and if arm rocks it moves enough to slip off the teeth. That's a shit design for a safety device. If under load it shouldn't be able to disengage at all.

    Exactly correct
As a manufacturer in this industry, there is nothing wrong in the HF stands.
They buy them in train car loads is how they can get the pricing down so low.

most don’t want to hear it, but the big tool truck brands for the most part all come out of one or two factories.

I have seen a 22T pin stand take 40 Tons all day long and never budge and I’ve seen a set of 12T stands buckle under a 2T shock load.

    Great video.

Obviously these came from two different factories. They probably had a set fail or numerous sets fail and realized there was an issue.
Dealing with these same factories for over ten years, HF demands a pile of production from these factories.

We only do around 50 million a year in lifting, and get pushed around all the time by these factories due to demands of HF.

Also, as Im on the board for ASME and PASE, i did not hear of any deaths or serious injuries related to these stands, so hopefully they caught it early or it just was never reported.

The question is what to replace them with. I'd bet that just about any other jack stand is made in the same factory and could have any number of problems.

Very cool. The original factory color on mine was called "Normandy Blue", which is a dark blue. That is the color you can kind of see peeking through the white in the photo. White was never a factory color in 46. Green, blue, tan, yellow and red were. If I do decide to repaint it, I'll go back to the blue it came out of the factory with.

That's good to know, I've never used their jack stands but have used their jacks for years without incident.

Damn, I've been using my 3 ton stands for years. I just went to check and I have the #69697 so "safe", or at least as safe as you can be with HF stuff. I definitely looked at the teeth before I bought them. Previous 2nd had experience with cheap jack stands made me wary.
