I need a hitch pin. What size for a 2018 Tacoma.

 

my guess is any you buy will fit.

 

Receiver is a chonk so longer than typical one. I cant find a link to mine, but someone else will probably be along to do so.

Locking pin Is what I am referring to.

 

Almost any pin will fit, a locking pin is another story. Even the one I had on my 2nd gen was to short for my 3rd gen.

 

Correct about the locking part. I edited my post for that since I omitted it.

 

I gave up and just decided to take it on and off as needed considering I can’t lock it. I could file or grind about 1/8-1/4 off the lock side but haven’t felt the need or desire to go that far.

 

I got mine from Menards, but I couldn't find it there to link it. I feel better about it locking when i'm hooked up and away from my truck.

I bought a locking pin from Harbor Freight. The one I had from my last full size truck wasn't long enough. The double wall hitch on the Tacoma requires a longer pin. The new, longer pin was just a hair short as it turns out. Probably the thickness of the powder coat. I turned the stop on the pin side down with a lathe for a perfect fit. It really took nothing. I could have chucked it up in a drill press and hit it with a file it took so little material removal. The pin material was softer than I expected too.

I have one like the lock pictured above, but it rattles and rattles drive me nuts so I went with a different style. The HF lock is $10.00 and from what I have read is just as strong as any other, which means they all are not too hard to defeat. Many of them seem to be the same pin/lock with different branding and pricing.

 

Mine doesn't seem to rattle, but to be fair I may just not notice it due to the cacophony of other sounds my truck makes.

I have no doubt the lock is not really secure, I like it more to keep someone from being a jackass and swiping the cotter pin like a regular hitch pin uses.

They should be 5/8'' dia., Pretty much all are standard size.

 

i bought one at harbor freight and had to grid off some of the inside bolt 1/8" to get it to lock.

 

Its the length that comes into play on Toyotas. The receiver box is thicker than most requiring a longer pin.
